It's Christmas Eve, and stores are packed. They need a Jewish express aisle...

I wish a merry Christmas Eve to all (even though my religion doesn't believe in that, haha). I thank everybody in advance for taking the time to read through this thread. I am wondering a few things from the generous CC population. One, what are my chances at the schools listed at the bottom? Two, does anybody have any suggestions for schools to look into? Three, does anybody have any suggestions to improve my chances? I will chance back everybody, provided they leave a link to their thread. Thank you very, very much!

(For junior year, I'm still waiting on my semester results for the courses without grades.)

My schedule is as rigorous as possible. I had a schedule conflict and could not take calc BC. My school does not offer AP Physics C. My school does not offer AP Macro or Micro, which is why I took them on FLVS. My school does not offer anything past French 3, which is why I'm taking AP French online.

Extracurriculars

Little League Baseball - volunteer manager during 10th grade and beyond. I am extremely dedicated to the organization and attend regularly scheduled board meetings.

Music - I have played the soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones for seven years. I attend a performing arts magnet school for saxophone. I play in the school's wind ensemble and jazz band. I made the All-County Jazz Band in 2008. I have played many pieces at the solo and ensemble festival. At the district level, I received two superiors (top grade) my freshman year, one of those being on a saxophone quartet I composed. I received three superiors my sophomore year, one of those being on a saxophone quintet I composed. In 2007, I finished in second place in a Florida composing contest.

Writing - six opinion pieces published in the local newspaper (2007-2009)

Rotary International - in 2009, I attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards meeting. This was my first exposure to Rotary. There, I won the Mike Donovan Award for speech. I saw many incredible speakers who were selflessly changing the world and helping those in need. The conference was filled with kids who want to help others as much as I do. Leaving the meeting extremely inspired, I founded a Rotary chapter, Interact Club, at my school and have been volunteering for the past half-year.

Mu Alpha Theta - ever since a friend and I started it at my school this year, we have been very busy participating in the three sectors of our chapter - competition, service, and creativity. For competition, we have already done two MAO competitions and plan on doing more. We also are going to be the first students at my school to take the AMC test. For service, we are doing tutoring in math, both in-school and online (via NSTEP). For creativity, we are making various math-related posters and songs. We are also working on entries for the MAO video competition. Overall, it really is nice to be engaging in math at an arts school, where stuff like this has literally never been done here before.

Young Democrats - I have volunteered for many democratic campaigns. My personal favorite was working with the Barack Obama campaign. This culminated in me attending his inauguration in DC, an experience that I will never forget.

Interact Club (10-11) - founder and president (10-11)
French Honor Society (9-11) - treasurer (11)
Young Democrats Club (9-11) - treasurer (11)
Mu Alpha Theta (11) - co-founder and secretary (11)
Environmental Club (9-11) - secretary (11)

kyrgyz - thank you for taking the time to chance me! I appreciate the effort and time taken to do so. However, I do have a couple of things to say. First of all, I’m a junior, so I haven’t yet applied or written my essays. Also, I don’t know my grade in physics yet. The course is called “AP Physics B”, with the B denoting that it is algebra-based and not calculus-based. Regardless, once again, thank you. (:

oh sorry
I know only little about those AP classes since I am an international applicatnt :)

You could get into the ivies if you have great essays/interviews. Good Luck :)

I think you’re being a bit too generous with me, but thank you very much! I appreciate the time and effort. (:

You’re really an excellent applicant - the top schools can be very unpredictable, but you really seem to have great chances at all of them. Legacy at Princeton should definitely help seal the deal.

CaliforniaDancer - thank you very much! I guess it all comes down to recs and essays this summer.

wow, your stats are amazing to say the least. your grades are phenomenal as well as your e/c’s! i think your in to Princeton and maybe even the other ivy’s on your list. you have a great chance at the rest of the schools on your list as well!

plz chance me back!http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/832418-i-know-i-have-no-chance-but-why-not-chance-me-anyway-will-chance-back.html

Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words. (:

your stats are amazing!! Everything from UNC and below on your list is pretty much guaranteed. Everything else, you got a pretty high chance. Good Luck.

Thank you very much! I haven’t really fallen in love with any of the schools besides Georgetown. I plan to apply there EA. I can’t wait until I do visits in the spring and summer.

it’s really hard to say since those schools are so hard to get into for anyone but i say you have excellent chances for all, especially princeton since you’re a legacy.
good luck!
: )

Thank you very much! I appreciate it greatly.

Consider Emory

Consider Duke

I’m not a big fan of Emory, but I’ll look into Duke. Thank you to both of you.

The only problem is your ECs. From a pure stats standpoint you are golden, but so are a lot of other applicants, so ECs really become the differentiating factor. Passion is something that is very important in college admissions, and here at Yale seeing the people who got into multiple Ivies it is obvious that they had a clear passion.

In that regard your chances are lacking at the top ivies except for maybe Princeton, do your best to try to articulate a coherent picture of yourself through your ECs and you will increase your chances exponentially as opposed to just having a random list of ECs.

Also, school based awards do not have the same weight as regional, state, or national level awards. So if you have any awards on the preceding level I would mention those over the school based awards.

Dbate, thank you for the criticisms. I know that I made a laundry list of ECs here, but I do plan on differentating between them and expressing passion on my applications, especially through volunteering for Little League. Also, I do not have any awards past the school level yet, which is rather unfortunate. This hopefully will change within the next year. Thank you!

I don’t think that the Ivies are matches for anyone, but I do think that you are definitely competitive. Your statistics are exceptional! Best of luck!
