Extracurriculars

Little League Baseball - volunteer manager during 10th grade and beyond. Currently working on my fourth season. I am extremely dedicated to the organization and attend regularly scheduled board meetings. I joined because I became too old to play travel baseball, and my school does not have a baseball team.

Music - I have played the soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones for seven years. I attend a performing arts magnet school for saxophone. I play in the school's wind ensemble and jazz band. I made the All-County Jazz Band in 2008. I have played many pieces at the solo and ensemble festival. At the district level, I received two superiors (top grade) my freshman year, one of those being on a saxophone quartet I composed. I received three superiors my sophomore year, one of those being on a saxophone quintet I composed. In 2007, I finished in second place in a Florida composing contest.

Writing - six opinion pieces published in the local newspaper (2007-2009)

Rotary International - in 2009, I attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards meeting. This was my first exposure to Rotary. There, I won the Mike Donovan Award for speech. I saw many incredible speakers who were selflessly changing the world and helping those in need. The conference was filled with kids who want to help others as much as I do. Leaving the meeting extremely inspired, I founded a Rotary chapter, Interact Club, at my school and have been volunteering for the past half-year.

Tutoring - I tutor all subjects, both in school and out of school. I tutor math online at NSTEP.

Young Democrats - I have volunteered for many democratic campaigns. My personal favorite was working with the Barack Obama campaign. This culminated in me attending his inauguration in DC, an experience that I will never forget.

National Youth Rights Association of Southeast Florida - I have performed over 100 hours of volunteer service for this youth rights political organization.

JSA debate (11-12) - treasurer of the entire Southeast U.S. region (12)
Interact Club (10-12) - founder and president (10-12)
French Honor Society (9-12) - treasurer (11), probably 12th?
Young Democrats Club (9-12) - treasurer (11), probably 12th?
Mu Alpha Theta (11-12) - co-founder and secretary (11), probably 12th?

Wow…I think that was the longest post I’ve ever read. And WOW…your stats are…I would say amazing, but that just might be an understatement. You could get into ALL of the schools you mentioned RD (I’m inclined to say even Harvard, Princeton, and Yale). Although, EDing at any of the schools you mentioned wouldn’t hurt :)

Chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/954953-am-i-right-track-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

I usually don’t reply to chance threads because, well, honestly I don’t know much. But for what it’s worth, I’m truly terrified that you’re applying to a lot of the same places I am. =P

Also, love the thread title.

Thank you! I think I could do without posting the classes/grades, or at least make it not one per line, but I’m a bit of an organization freak. I can’t see myself doing ED, since I don’t like the idea of being tied down.

happilyhelen - I’m glad you liked it! I try to pick somewhat witty posting titles to attract attention. Clearly, it worked for you. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m actually about to take a look at your thread.

Wow! This chance is certainly long but very neat and professional looking lol.
Your grades are awesome considering your highschool is top 100.
I think you will get into even Harvard/Yale/Princeton with little problems. I am sure you will write an amazing essay!

Thank you! I would say Princeton moreso than Harvard and Yale since my mother went there.

Ah, another FLVSer. I thought I was the only one. The fact that you can take gym at FLVS is disturbing though. As far as your chances go, I don’t have much to say; I’d be surprised it you didn’t get into at least three quarters of the Ivys. Would you chance me? Thanks.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/957028-chance-please.html</a></p>

davidoga - oh yeah, unfortunately it’s what about half of the students do at my school. It’s not like I don’t exercise anyway, though, but almost everyone I know cheats through the workout logs. What classes did you take on there?

You have a solid SAT score and solid subject sats plus your extra-cirruclars are pretty good. I think you have a guaranteed shot at all of the non IV’s and a decent shot at the IV’s.

Merci beaucoup!

sorry for spaming but i was wondering what you would consider a good sat score for the colleges i plan to apply to
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/961314-some-say-i-have-great-shot-some-say-i-have-no-chance-so-confused.html</a></p>

Good job, I’d already responded to your thread long before you made this spam post. If you’re going to self-advertise, at least try to see who comments on your stuff before doing so.

Wow! You do realize that you will have taken 23 APs by the time you graduate. That is simply mind boggling. I’m positive you will get into the majority of the places you apply to. And, WOW, WOW, WOW… again.

Hey! By any chance, do you go to Spruce Creek High School? My friend goes there. Random, i know :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, Your ECs are really good. Albeit, UNC Chapel Hill will be EXTREMELY hard for OOS (out of state) applicants. It is supposed to be the best public university in america. (They have like a 2% or 3% acceptance rate for OOS medical students).

U of Mich. Ann Arbor will be a very very easy safetey. My friend with significatnly worse credentials got in : 1950 SAT, laundry list of ECs.

Good luck!

WOuld you mind chancing me? : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/960287-chance-international-national.html</a></p>

Thanks!

LOL why are YOU asking for chances? By unanimous consensus, you can get into any of those colleges. You are probably in the top .1% of CC.

Just how are you going to fit all of that on the application?

ProudToBeCdn - 24, actually :P

nitcomp - nah, sorry, I’ve never even heard of it to be honest.

borkborkbork - I managed to fit all of it on Georgetown’s app and UF’s app (neither of which I’ve sent in yet, obviously, but I’ve got the stuff down already). Of course, there’s less explanation, but I did get down what I had to.

Bump, for great justice.

Really great EC’s!!
You should be sure to include a few of your writing pieces as supplement or additional materials…they’ll only serve to boost your chances!
For UMish,Washington,Northwestern-ur in!!
For the ivies…well i cant say anything coz nobody really knows for sure…but you do have very good odds of getting in!

Thank you for your kind words! I was actually thinking about including a CD of my saxophone performance as a supplement; my published pieces are kind of immature, upon reflection.

that is a very good idea.I thought of doing the same for my dance(as although i dont have many awards in the field…i am one of the best dancers learning at one of the country’s top dance institutes)…but everyone tells me that the video doesnt come out too good(picture quality something)
