.....or not go to TUOS

LOL what a dumbass. OSU sucks at everything. No Michigan Wolverine would ever get this question wrong.

GO BLUE!

I just saw that earlier today, didn’t even realize it was new.

Though I have to figure most people at OSU can multiply. However I also imagine everyone at UM can, so we win.

i don’t see why this is even a big deal. there’s a guy who works in the mailroom in my company who went to ohio state, everytime i go down there, he says “go buckeyes, michigan sucks”, i just laugh, the rivalry is only relevant in football. thats it.unless you played on the football team at osu, there’s really nothing to talk about.

You’re over analyzing it. This is hatred for the sake of hatred.

Ehhh… I think it’s just a funny video. I’d say the same thing if she had gone to Harvard, except I’d make a bigger deal of it.

Maybe she’s dyscalculic. I couldn’t do that without a pencil and I go to Michigan, so you might have to let the Buckeyes off the hook for this one.

She explains herself at the start of the video. She also gets it right. What’s the problem?
I think all this OSU hatred is dumb. In fact, school spirit is dumb. I HATE YOUR HATE.

Also, Patricia Heaton is more successful than any of us will ever be.

Everyone’s just joking around. I’m honestly completely indifferent towards OSU (and I imagine most are, with perhaps a competitive feeling against them). Settle down.

"LOL what a dumbass. OSU sucks at everything. "
I don’t think that was joking around. Even if it was, it still irks me.

I’m honestly completely indifferent towards OSU
that’ll change

(and I imagine most are, with perhaps a competitive feeling against them). Settle down.
WRONG

“I think all this OSU hatred is dumb. In fact, school spirit is dumb”
you are dumb

You are dumb for identifying with umich for the purpose of identifying with what you think is an abstract intellectual elite, or worse, a social group. You should go to umich for an education, and then leave, being proud of nothing.

QwertyKey, believe it or not, morons like bearcats pervade umich. Their minds are convinced of the rivalries fabricated by sports and media.

No we just have school pride. Even though the OSU v. M rivalry exists only in football, it doesn’t mean we have to like the school as a whole. Even if its useless hate, its still fun.

My friend who is going to OSU “hates” all Michigan students just because. We always go back and forth arguing which school is better. I always win of course lol. If you are so negative about this rivalry of our “hate” of OSU, just leave this thread.

“School pride” is exactly what I have described.
Leaving this thread will not solve the issue. At least, I’ve shown you why school pride is useless. Michigan is a better school than OSU. And that’s it. OSU kids with an inferiority complex may be a little p*ssed, but who cares?
You think dissing other schools is fun? Most people lose sight of how useless the rivalry is. At that point it is just silly.

Its not about if Michigan is a better academically, socially, or what ever. Its just a fun rivalry. Don’t you get that? OSU students would do or say the same things. It goes both ways. Even if you think its useless, I think its rather fun. That is the point of this thread. To make fun of OSU. Just because that OSU woman couldn’t answer the question doesn’t mean the school is academically inferior. It is just funny that it happens to be an OSU alumni. If that was a Michigan alumni, OSU students would be laughing. They would post this same thread on the OSU Thread list.

I acknowledge that you see this as fun. But once you forget that the rivalry is worthless, then it starts getting to your head. At that point, you will truly believe that you are better than someone only because they went to a different school. Of course, I don’t mean you personally, but there are many who are like that.
Anyway, it’s not even very fun.

Well, I’m an incoming freshman so thats why I’m having fun, but maybe Michigan upperclassmen view the rivalry differently and don’t take it as seriously. I don’t think I’m better than anyone and I don’t think it should ever get that far. The people that think Michigan is better than OSU are basing their opinion on ranks and other things. Just because someone went to a different school doesn’t mean you are better than them. There are many anecdotes I could use, but there’s no point.

It was just funny how that person from OSU struggled to get the correct answer to an easy problem. I think that was the main point of this thread. Even though the rivalry mainly exists because of football.

I think Entertainer better explained what I was thinking…

The main point of this thread is to call attention to OSU and then associate OSU with inability to do math and then assert Michigan’s dominance over OSU, never mind that she said she rarely attended class.
I guess my main problem is an inability to perceive the whole thing as fun. The rivalry with OSU is not just based on rankings. Michigan ranks higher than UNC, why isn’t there a rivalry there? Because the whole OSU thing is contrived through sports and media. Knowing this, I can’t entertain myself with any rivalry.
If I were you, the next step I’d take is to realize how stupid the rivalry is and stop paying attention to it in order to focus on school work. Of course, if you do think the rivalry is fun, then it is merely a matter of aesthetics, in which case it is impossible for us to come to an agreement, at least on an internet forum.

It’s based partially on football because UM and OSU, throughout history, have been seen as the top 2 big ten teams. It’s a rivalry based partially on respect since UM and OSU traditionally compete to be the Big Ten champion in football. Rivalry creates intense competition, which usually brings out better performances in each team. People get into it because it’s a great accomplishment if you can beat your most distinguished competitor. Of course, there will always be people who turn violent and take the rivalry too far.

It also may have gotten its roots from the Toledo War.

I agree with the post below this.

I never said the rivalry was based on rankings. I said that the people that take this rivalry to the “head”, for lack of a better word, use the rankings and prestige to create the perception that U-M is a better school than OSU. No one is saying OSU students can’t do math. No one is saying that U-M is a better school. We are just poking fun at the video. Coincidentally the woman in the video was from OSU. That is what made the whole thing funny. I don’t see why you can’t understand that. People started taking this seriously when you made the assumption that U-M students think OSU students are dumbasses and clearly that isn’t the case. We don’t think we are better than them, even though on the football field that is a different story.

What fun would the OSU vs. Michigan game be if we didn’t take the rivalry seriously? Why are you overanalyzing this situation?

Come on, I’m not even at Michigan yet. Of course I’m going to focus on my studies. I don’t understand why you can’t make a little joke about this video. Why are you taking this so seriously? It wasn’t meant to be serious. Am I supposed to go to Michigan with the sole purpose of studying everyday and not living life and having fun? The point of college is to be independent, make new friends, have fun, and succeed at whatever you are trying to accomplish. Succeeding is the first priority, everything else is secondary. Part of the reason I chose to come here was because football was so important. I have pride in the school I’m attending.
