It's my dream to work on Wall Street. My situation is described below.

I am going to Miami (OH) for my undergraduate degree and I got into the business school. I know that it is not Northwestern or Michigan but it was ranked 22nd by Businessweek and from what I have heard it is a pretty nice school. As I said before Miami (OH) is not what would be considered a target school but they do have this investment banking club.

Here is a link to a description of it ( its on the right side)-
Student Organizations & Development : Organizations

They also have these job searching trips:
: Finance Immersion Programs

If I work really hard and network a lot can I get to Wall Street from Miami University?

I really want to work there so I have laid out a couple options for myself. Rank them in what you think is best for me:

Go to Miami (OH),network a lot and try to get to Wall Street from there
2.Go to Miami (OH) for a year, transfer to Indiana University which sends more kids to Wall Street and try to get there through Indiana
3.Go to Miami (OH), transfer to Ohio State, try to get into the Fisher Futures program and try to get to Wall Street that way

It depends on what you mean by “work on Wall Street.”.

Do you mean any finance? Of course you can.

Do you mean front office IB or S & T? Maybe not from your school.

Would you accept back office? Yes possible from your school.

In all situations, you need a very good resume. High gpa, interesting extracurricular activities or internships.

You can “work on Wall Street.”

You can always work for John Thomas Financials on Wall Street.

@morirismm- Hey I forgot my info to my other account so I made a new one.

To answer your question I do want to be an Investment Banker and work for a bank like Goldman or Morgan Stanley.

What do you mean by a back office position? What would the salary/hours for that be around?

Also would transferring to Indiana give me better job prospects?

why do you want to be an investment banker?

Do you even know what this is?

your only option is to get a 3.8+ and transfer to a core banking school like Stern

Stern isn’t a “core banking school”.

And yes, jdavis, you always have a chance. You’re going in pretty early with a career path in mind, which is good, if you’re dedicated to that path. If not, you’ll probably switch around, which is what most do. That said, you do have a chance. Going into it, you shouldn’t need one bad midterm to jolt you into studying, do exceptionally well throughout. Immerse yourself in finance. Figure out why you actually want to go into IB and build off of that. And then contact people alumni who are currently or were in IB. Network.

Ok. What banks do you think I could get into from Miami (OH)?

I’m not sure which banks recruit there directly, you could ask a current student or call the career services office. But one thing I can recommend is reading this thread:

[How I used LinkedIn to get Interviews and Land Offers | Wall Street Oasis](How I used LinkedIn to get Interviews and Land Offers | Wall Street Oasis)

And looking through some alumni who are in IB. Then again, this stuff is for later. As I said, just do exceptionally well in school. Your school may be a slight problem, but that can be dealt with. A mediocre GPA would be even worse…
