I would say that you shouldn't get so stressed about the test...

When I take tests like these, I don't think about what score I'm getting or "Aw crap, this day is going to determine if I can get into "Dream School" or not!! AAH!", even though that is what I think deep inside. I put all of that aside for the test.

You should put your focus solely on taking the SAT's while taking the test and I am sure you would definitely do much better.

However, if your essays are really good, they could overtake a mediocre SAT score (assuming that is your only weak point) for JHU ED.

Thank you! I'd take it again, really, but this Saturday I'm taking Bio and Lit.

After a lot of thought, they're probably going to defer me and ask for new test scores and midyear report. But I have a plan, if I do get deferred, I'm going to:

A. Send them my Art Profolio
B. Write them a letter explaining my freshmen year (2.2-found out my parents were divorced)
C. Take the SAT in January

I really really hpoe I get in ED. If only they could overlook the SAT, I'm the perfect JHU student. I mean I'm smart, goal oriented, I love science, I'm artistic, i've done so many things for the community (600+) I overcame obstacles.

My sophomore year, my counselor would not let me be in the IB diploma program because she didn't think I could do it. Not only did I get a 4.0 with all IB classes, but she loves me now.

Its just that, why pick me when there are people with higher SATs and better stats?

"And thats problem I have with it, brilliant, intelligent, creative, wonderful, dedicated kids, can be completely demoted to a lower "
and thats where youre wrong. the kids with low sats can be creative, wonderful and dedicated but not brilliant and intelligent. that's their fault/ deficiency. no matter how hard a retarted kid tries, he's never going to get a Ph.D in physics.

its like putting a short guy up against a tall guy in basketball. even normal intelligence trying hard in high school and getting a 4.0 pales in comparision to above average intelligence getting a 3.5 in high school then working hard in college.

haha just kidding with the above man. if youre finding that you cant get into where you want because of your SATs, remember that colleges look at SATs to make sure you that you have the potential to do well past high school work while in high school

so, that means after a few years of undergrad grades behind you, they matter much less. try transferring after that. if you dont get in with the transfer, try it in grad school; SATs dont even matter then. I don't even think they take them on the app.

I think we're all forgetting that SATs aren't even everything. If you are such an outstanding applicant, they will see that.
Perhaps, tinas, your SAT scores are low, but I really think that if you think you're so amazing elsewhere, then you wouldn't be as worried.
SATs are important, no doubt about it, but truly amazing applicants can even sometimes outshine their mediocre SAT scores.
Although yes, a lot of the time, it doesn't work like that, I think you have to have a little faith that if you think you're that good, so will they.

and thats where youre wrong. the kids with low sats can be creative, wonderful and dedicated but not brilliant and intelligent. that's their fault/ deficiency. no matter how hard a retarted kid tries, he's never going to get a Ph.D in physics.

Thats not true and I completely disagree. I studied insanely for the SAT. I took prep classes, took a test every day after school etc... It was the fact that I freaked out during the test that ruined me, not my lack of intelligence.

I got a 28 on my ACT and another guy got a 35 on the ACT.

Both of us did not study for an AP Physics test except memorize the couple formulas.

He got a 66/100 and I got a 89/100 on the test. One of the best grades in the class.

It not just this isolated insodent. I continually help the kids out in my AP Cal class and breeze through the class even guys that scored 3,4,5 points higher than me on the ACT struggle through the class. I never study more than 30 mins at night or the 20 mins b4 school for any test. Ranked 5/205 in my grade.

So does it look like the ACT is an accurate indicator of my abilities as a student. I know I am so much smarter than my ACT score.

“If I don’t get into JHU, I’m enlisting in the army and going to Iraq so I can die, because the pain will be too much for me to bear.”
HAHAHAHA
AHAHAHAHA OMG OMG LOOOOOL
People like you are what makes CC such a hilarious forum.

oh, P.S.
Please stop bragging about how smart, intelligent, wonderful, blah, blah, blah you are. I hope you didn’t do that in your essay, because it will be THAT, not your SAT scores, that kept you out.

ppl complain how SAT makes people with good grades look bad, but what about the opposite. My GPA cancels out my above avg. scores, especially now that the trend is to discount tests. It’s not fair that someone who takes 4 years to prove their ability is accepted somewhere when I can show my skills in one day and am deferred or rejected.

to rsxwheeeeee: your logic there is wrong. no one is accepted BECAUSE they took four years to show their grades. if anything, anyone with a 4.0 GPA has had many one-day-victories like yours in order to get their GPA. don’t fault them for consistently working hard. so what if you’ve aced the SAT? one can go from 1980 to 2400 without hiring a tutor and relying only on affordable collegeboard material. (it’s been done by a CC member, look him up).

to all: that having been said, i still believe the SAT and SAT subject tests and AP are useful measures because they compare high school students. i’m an international student and i have a senior (who’s on this forum somewhere) who has a 3.4 GPA but a 2360 SAT, 2400 on 3 subject tests combined, 7 fives for her APs, first in our national physics olympiad and a medalist in the international chemistry olympiad. many of you have 4.0 GPAs but that means nothing except that your school courses are lack rigor compared to other schools. measures like the SAT and AP come to the rescue of kids in schools where one has to be really smart to survive. so don’t go blaming the SAT for being a weak indicator because i’ve seen valedictorians on this forum with 4.0s but sub-2100 SAT scores. and that says a lot about some schools there.
