Its the final decision *doo doo doo doo* *doo doo doo doo doo* Its the final decision

Okay so Ive basically made my list of schools im applying to, now I'm deciding what I'm going to do upon acceptance - if my intended major is Computer Science, this is how I've arranged the schools according the the ones I'd like to go to... do you agree? Each section are basically of equal value to me...

Now my question is - Is this a fair way to arrange them or should I change it up and/or add/remove certain schools

Thanks

University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign

University of Maryland
University of Washington

University of Wisconsin - Madison

Purdue University - West Lafayette

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Indiana University - Bloomington

University of Massachusetts

University of Arizona

PS. I would be happy going to any of these schools so dont say I should put them in order of ones I would be happiest at. I would just as happy at any of these schools that's why Ive picked them

“this is how I’ve arranged the schools according the the ones I’d like to go to”

If it’s clear that Illinois is above all other schools in terms of your preference, then what’s delaying the decision? You don’t need to be asking others what you like.

To be honest - practically all these schools are the same. They’re all big public schools with great reputations.

The NRC rankings for computer science are the following:

8 Illinois 4.09
9 Washington 4.04
10 Wisconsin 4.00
16 Maryland 3.69
18 Massachusetts 3.59
26 Purdue 3.28
33 Arizona 3.05
36 Indiana 3.00
46 Minnesota 2.67

All are top 50 schools for CS, all are big public schools in college towns (outside of Wash and Minn). I would go to whatever is the cheapest that you like the best, look for the best “value”.

thank you a lot for the insight, are there any other schools you think i should consider?

This is a decision on what schools to APPLY to?

Apply where you want. Only you really know where you want to go to school. I’m sure you’ve seen the rankings, know where you will be a competitive applicant, and know what you can afford and what each school has available financially.

no no no this is a decision on where i go assuming i get into all of them and get the same financial aid package

have you visited any of them? because I know that makes a difference. College visits have shown me, in the past, that I would not be happy at a school larger than around 27,000 students… that I would not be happy in a metropolitan setting, because that + school would be too overwhelming… and that I can’t go somewhere where the dorms are smaller than jail cubicles, not saying any names but Udub was pretty bad ;)

Think about setting now, and see if that helps you narrow it down…

COlsen…what no California schools? I see that you’re a westcoaster…what is your reason for not considering the UC’s or the state schools? Just curious.

ive only been living in the west coast for a couple of months, first 17 years of my life in New York

I like you list too. Just make sure that you are admitted directly into University of Washington CS program. If you are not, you probable should go to Maryland or Wisconsin instead.

If you need to add schools, how about Penn State or Rutgers? They should be in Purdue and Minnesota section.

Hope this will help. :)

i was actually thinking I should add a safety/financial safety school…any suggestions?

For out of state students, Stony Brook could be a safety/financial safety.

Hope this will help:)

Sergei Brin graduated from MD. He’s doing OK.

i dont get it :O
