It's time for Vietnamese thread !!!

Yes, until Nov 21st

hey VL? when will u get the notification of ED Williams? And when is Colgate's ED deadline?

Dec 15 for the former and Jan 15 for the latter

hlvietlong: Something like psychology/sociology/education would be good, although I think it is very flexible.
HiLine: Most PhD programs and some MS programs would pay stipends for grad students, so financial aid should not be a problem.

Hey guys,
This might not be relevant to most of you, but is there any Vietnamese who is interested in community (junior) college as a transition before transferring to a 4-year college? If there is, I will share with you my personal experience which might be helpful for some of you.

That's still an option, but do we have a chance of getting good fin aid (100% need met) when transfering ?

hlvietlong: It depends on where you would transfer to! In many cases, the answer is yes, provided that in general you transfer with strong GPA from a community college to a private college.
Anyway, this is what happened to me. When I was a senior in high school in California, I only applied to Berkeley and a few other UCs because all my three siblings were attending Berkeley at that time. I got in Berkeley with full scholarship, but ended up asking for a one year deferment because of my family situation. During the spring the following year, I took a few courses at a local community college and somehow I liked it a lot there. I then decided to stay there another year. Eventually I applied to transfer and decided to leave California to attend Yale. I had to take out a few thousand dollars a year because my scholarship at Yale wasn't great.
I guess what I am trying to tell you guys is that community college can be a good thing for some of us. While it might not be the best option for many, for others it might be a good option.

DaiViet,I am considering that option,do you have useful techniques in transferring ? :) Thanks in advance .

HiLine: Stay focused for your next SAT. I am praying your new SAT scores will be great ones, although I think your current scores are not bad at all. For your case, only consider community college as one of the last options. If you like to talk about community college, I have plenty of strategies. I have used these strategies to help some students, including my own relatives, who are either high school graduates who who have worked and now decide to go back to college. But forget this option for now and keep practice to improve your weakest areas of the SAT.

DaiViet,I will try my best to do well on the next SAT date and hope for a good enough result . Thank you for your advice.

@HiLine: still trying another shot for the SAT ?

If I had the money, I'd be trying again and again too. You have three shots, why not use them up? Good luck, HiLine!
My ED school hasn't acknowledged receipt of papers. It's like three weeks already, and I used EMS. What the heck is going on?

You need a miracle, my friend :D

hlvietlong:yeah, that's my last chance and last hope.
miaoling :thanks ;) .The college hasn't received your material ? In that case,I think you should ask the college if you may re-send the material and hope that you would not have to spend extra money for the same material.

I really don't wanna take the SAT in Jan even though my Nov SAT may be bad :( Maybe I was too confident about my whole package
Taking the SAT again = spending a lot of time on it = get laid back in class = low GPA
Everything has a price

I agree with you on that.
But I have no choice .

You do, but you do not realize it: polish the rest of your package: GPA, rec letter and essays. GPA is always the most important factor

I do,but my SAT score seems to be the weakest factor in my whole package.

updated information : my SAT II scores are weak as well.

HiLine,
How weak is weak? What is weak to you might be average or high for most other students.
