just to let you fellow vietnamese know, almost all vietnamese americans think that vietnam is nothing but a corrupt country. my family (and i'm sure plenty of other vietnamese families do this) raised me to despise the viet cong.

I can guess that. But as an adult ,you can discover the fact yourself. At least,I am here. ;)

Yah same here integ.

HiLine? Why HiLine? I mean, what does your user name mean?

-Vietnamese-American Teen Who is Still Posting, Contrary to HiLine's Earlier Statement

you are in america hiline? what state?

My user name's origin is a secret. ;)
It is a pity that you two have never visited Vietnam.I hope I will have a chance to go to the USA to talk face to face to your families (not on political matters,of course)

I have visited - well in 1997. (Hue, Saigon, Hanoi)

"Talk face to face to your families."

Hmm... sounds threatening.

Again, not on political matters.I have met several Vietnamese Americans in Hawaii, they are all nice.:)
In 1997,how did you find Vietnam?

Ah almost a decade ago!!!!!!!

I found it humid, exotic :rolleyes, busy (Saigon), and ...different.

Honestly, I was about 9 years old and didn't really appreciate my surroundings or the chance to visit the homeland. I will be visiting Hue, among other cities/towns this summer so I will savor the experience much more.

La~

Where did you apply HiLine? LACS?

This summer? Great! Are you going with your family ?
Edit: for your question: mostly LACs but none in CA .:(

Yes I am. . .

let me tell you about the time i went to vietnam

i went with my mom and older brother. me and my brother looked too american so no vietcong tried to mess with us. my mom on the other hand, had a hard time getting through all them checkpoints. usually at these checkpoints vietkieu are supposed to give these vietcong workers some US Do La so they let us through with no trouble, but my mom decided not to. the vietcong guy looked ****sed, but he didn't have the balls to hold my mom back because he saw me and my brother

another time when my dad went to vietnam, this vietcong asked my dad how much money he brought. my dad said 10,000, and the commi said that's over the limit, so they took him in this room to count the money, and when they were finished they said the money was fake. my dad started yelling at the commi and he didn't want to cause more trouble so the commi let my dad go. *** is this all about, is this how the socialist republic of VN works?

I must confess that there are social problems in Vietnam. What do you think Vietnam is? A country 30 years after a 100-year period of wars would need much more time to solve those problems. And if that is not convincing enough, I should include that your visit and your father's visit took place several years ago?

spirited away,I 'm glad to know that you will have a chance to show your family the facts. It is hard to convince you or your family without you coming to Vietnam.

Vietnam has its problems: corruption, poverty, ... - it's true - no one can deny it. But wait a minute, tell me which country in the world that doesnt have those problems?
We - vietnamese - have to admit it and together make it better. Look into the truth and try for the best. Denying doesn't do any good for the country and even make it worse. As well, pointing out negative aspects and don't do anything to make it better is also losers' action.
Are you confident enough to face it?

I think they would love to improve our country. If only they lived in Vietnam!

Did you guys read the 4rum rules ? No politics, pls :D We are talking about applying to US Colleges.
@integ & spirited: forget those sad memories. VN is changing a lot. I cannot describe the process in words but I suggest you should see it with your own eyes :D The truth is: we Vnmese seniors are now free to apply to US Colleges :D A huge change, right ? :D

Great ! Dunno that in CC exists this kind of thread :))

@bro vlong : In previous pages , you mentioned that the transcript is the most important thing in application packages ! :). You don't seriously mean that , huh ? :((. Nothing is more important than it , huh ? :)). I took the sting out of your words but no use. So now have to ask you directly cuz my grades are normal ( nothing stellar like 9.0 or 8.5 :(( ) ! What can I do ? :((
Plz reveal a little bit abt your GPA ! ( I justwanna die if yours are from 8.6 -> 9.0 + ). Thanks ! :((

I don't think we are talking about politics. No capitalism, not communism, you see? There are American Vietnamese guys wishing to know the truth(not politics-related).That's all.

The truth is: we Vnmese seniors are now free to apply to US Colleges A huge change, right ? :D

Yeah,a huge change by the US Government ;)

@HiLine: nah, just stop it, this is such a sensitive and controversial issue.
Like I said, sometimes they have to see it with their own eyes :D
Seeing is believing, right ? :D
Continuing discussing it will just raise some clashes :)

@Khoa: Transcript is always the most important thing in your package :D
The good news is: if the school you applied is not so familiar with the Vnmese edu system and grading scale, 8.5, 9.0 or even <8.5 are the same.
The bad news is: there are only a few colleges of such kind, most well-known schools are now getting acquainted to our grading system.
My GPA is not so high but I think it shows my improvement:
Grade 9: 8.9
Grade 10: 8.4
Grade 11: 8.6
Grade 12 (1st semester): 8.9
