ITT you list all the books you tried to read but lacked the attention span for

Angel_Sushi...were you talking to me? I just don't like Prep...It's probably the only book I've read like 95% of and just gave up. So I did give it a try.

All of 'em.

War and Peace, I got 20 pg's in. I had to stop for my own sanity

The third lord of the rings. I tried reading it 4 or 5 times. Never got further than page 20.

Oedipus the King
Antigone
The Lord of the Flies
JANE EYRE

"Catch-22"
That's funny- I couldn't stop reading Catch-22 from the moment that I started the first page =)

The Sound and the Fury... not because I dislike it, or because it is boring, but because it's just a very difficult book to get through (for me). I have to read sections two, three, or even four times to understand certain bits. I found the "Benjy" section relatively simple to understand... but Quentin is really giving me a run for my money. I haven't given up yet... I've just taken a break to read A Farewell to Arms. But, I will be back! And I WILL finish Quentin's section! I swear =)

On the other hand, all of my struggles have actually made me appreciate Faulker/the book more. I think it's going to be one of those books that you become very comfortable with, and read over and over... every time noticing different things or interpreting certain parts differently, etc.

PS- Harry Potter is awesome.

Great Expectations [period]

LesOs, until I read your Harry Potter comment I thought we might be polar opposites because I absolutely loved Sound and the Fury minus Benjy's section. Quentin's was actually my favorite.

Grapes of Wrath... I forgot that one. Ew.

The Awakening
Crime and Punishment
The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
The Illiad

Probably more but I can't remember off the top of my head.

The Lord of the Rings
Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Heart of Darkness

the hobbit... Got really confusing towards the end

Catch 22

I've had it for weeks and I'm only on the sixth chapter (which isn't much at all)

I messed up big time :(. I thought you were actually calling someone a prep, not naming a book. I'm so so sorry...

cry the beloved country (it was summer reading before SEVENTH grade...i still remember hating that book)

The Age of Innocence (I kept waiting for it to get to the point..never happened)
Catch-22 (might try this again soon)
The Grapes of Wrath (ditto)
A Tale of Two Cities

Anna Karenina
Ulysses (by Joyce)
The Scarlett Letter
Cannery Row (since when did Steinbeck get quaint?)

If this list were synonomous to college admissions, Tolkien would be an ORM. I happened to have devoured all of the Professor's books yearly since I was 10. Ouch, CC'ers!

Hm. I appear to be the only person in my Lit classes who has in fact read every assigned book over the course of my high school career. Hurrah for me.

The first time I tried A Tale of Two Cities I was severely bored and dropped it without ceremony. Imagine how annoyed I was when I was assigned it last year.

I appear to be unusual amongst fantasy fans in that I can't get through Lord of the Rings. I also hate Eragon immensely.

Really, though, I have a tendancy to drop a book if I don't like it and then pick it up a few years later. For instance, I did that with the Discworld and now it's one of my very favorite series. (I, like a moron, kept starting with The Colour Magic. It wasn't until I picked up The Truth that I realized how wonderful the series is.)

For me, there are only two kinds of books:

1) Those you cannot read beyond the first paragraph.
2) Those you cannot read beyond the first page.

Pride and Prejudice- Although I did read the abriged children's book version- did anyone ever read those Illustrated book classics with the picture on every other page?

Hilary Clinton's autobiography-enough said.

Ethan Frome- Just couldn't stomach it.

Uncle Tom's Cabin- I hate that colloquial crap. Well, that can't be entirely true since i've read and reread Their Eyes Were Watching God, but I hate Uncle Tom's Cabin.
