IU bloomington music performance

Dear all,

I was wondering what the requirements for admission are for the music performance major at iu bloomington. Of course, I know there is the audition. but, being that this school's music program is the best in the country, is it a very competitive school to gain admission into?

Yes, it is competitive. My son is a trumpet performance major. He was required to audition. (He sent in a tape, which was due in November, I believe, rather than do the live audition, due to distance and money factors.) The application also calls for letters for recommendation from private lessons teachers, a personal statement, and perhaps a repertoire list. (All the applications are getting mixed together in my head, so it's hard to remember what materials were required by what schools.)

For my son, recommendations by his private teachers ended up being crucial to his acceptance. The audition, of course, is number one. While IU isn't as competitive to get into as, say Juilliard or some of the conservatories, it is still quite competitive. (It does help, too, that it is a big school and thus can take more students than most conservatories.)
