IU Early Action Acceptances - Class of 2025

I’d take the $6k and run,. Our OOS S has a 4.64pga and a 1510 SAT. All High honors classes. They only gave him $4k/yr. The AO said they dont look at test scores in figuring out Dean’s scholarship amounts.

So what criteria do they use for dean’s scholarships?

My D21 (3.97 UW, 1520 SAT, strong EC, leadership, AP snd IB) received $9k annually.

When I called, the AO said she confirmed that $4K was the right amount per their algorithm but would not give me the criteria other than saying test scores were not considered.

Interesting … so it’s a mystery.

It looks like $11k is the maximum annual scholarship…,

This does not make sense too me. Those stats are pretty impressive. I haven’t any idea how IU scholarships are doled out. My son is in state and had a 4.0U/4.23W, 32 ACT and will have 18-21 college credits when he starts this fall. COAS DA, and received 7,000/28,000 Provost Scholarship. We were shocked/ surprised with his award. Oldest son was a 2014 DA Kelley and only received 3,000/12,000 from IU. The only difference was that my oldest son had a 30 ACT, and everything else was the exact same😳

Hi - can you clarify what you mean when you wrote 7,000/28,000? Does that mean that your son received both a $7,000 and $28,000 scholarship? If $7,000 was for Provost, what was the $28,000 scholarship for? Thanks for any insight you can provide on how the scholarships work at IU.

7,000 per year, 28,000 total for four years. Now he got invited to apply for a Cox Research Scholarship, and that would pay for everything that the Provost doesn’t. It’s highly doubtful that he gets it, as it’s super competitive. We are very pleased with IU has given him so far.

It didnt make sense to us either. I have to assume two factors. First, since they didn’t use test scores this year then they need to go by unweighted GPA and its very difficult to compare GPAs across schools - especially for OOS schools. My S is in the top 10% of his class but due to our skewed grading system for high honors, I’m guessing his unweighted GPA is in the 3.6 range. He has 9 APs and will have 30+ hrs of credit going into IU. I also doubt it has anything to do with ECs . The other factor may be the number of students being accepted from our high school. 250 kids from our high school get accepted at IU every year and about 50 attend. They may be looking to lower those numbers to spread things out a bit which I totally understand.

I’m seeing some know their scholarship awards already and many do not, including my son. Can someone please explain?

It shouldn’t make sense. It’s honestly hard to compare High Schools and I can guarantee that your son went too a much better academically oriented High School than what my son did. The course offerings are very limited when it comes to college level material but he and his fellow classmates in the Top 20 took advantage of what was offered. I doubt that there will 50 from his class that actually go to a four year program. Your son deserves a little more than what IU offered, but I honestly haven’t figured out IU and this is our second rodeo. Just a side note: My wife was Salutatorian of her her High School class in 1985. She took Latin, Greek, etc., she got just a 500$ scholarship for all of that work. Graduated in 1989 with 13,000$ of student debt😳

My D21 was accepted OOS with a 3.9 unweighted, IB curriculum, 29 ACT, solid ECs, I’m sure good Recs because of scholarships she received elsewhere. IU was high on her list because she spent every summer since born in IN where her grandparents are and she can go there for breaks etc. Dean’s was 3K per year. SSA invite for Hudson and Holland, but honestly it may still be financially out of reach.

With the OOS tuition being 37,000+ per year, I don’t know how people can afford it. We are in state and only 45 minutes from campus. Tuition is 11,000$ and housing is about the same and with all of the added costs it goes north of a 100,000$ for four years. Whatever your daughter decides to do I’m sure that she will be fine and do very well. Good Luck

As an out-of-stater I don’t know how either, really. My D21 has been admitted to both IU and Purdue and she is leaning towards Purdue because it is almost 10000 cheaper. I’m a '94 Indiana grad, and I bleed Cream and Crimson, but Purdue seems like the better value.

Same here. I’ve been a fan for 50+ years. Purdue, depending on what she’s going for, is the better school, and as you say, much cheaper. PU is ranked 56th or so and IU is about at the 80th position. It might get better when McRobbie leaves. The basketball program is in shambles, so PU even leads there😳Good Luck

Anyone have any idea about initial award notifications for the SSA? I submitted it on 12/16.

@James1963 my parents were IU '94 and '92 alums as well! I share your sentiment in that Purdue is objectively an academically superior school in terms of STEM fields. IU is better in general for business, music, and some liberal arts. I think Krannert is positioning itself as a better and better program every year, however, and it’s still a great value.

I agree with you totally. My son is going to be a Liberal Arts major, with a leaning to History/Political Science. I tried to get him to go the Kelley route like his brother but he doesn’t have the desire for it. I also lobbied for Economics as a backup, seeing that it’s in the COAS, so that might still be a possibility. Whatever happens I just say, too each his own. It’s his life not mine. Most of his friends are headed to Purdue or Rose Hulman for engineering and he’s the only student at his High School that is going to IU. Very odd😳

I got $10k/year for Dean’s and I’m applying for more scholarships through the SSA as well

Just looked at my scholarship portal on One.IU - it says that I’ve been offered the Hudson Holland scholarship!

Congratulations!!! You are getting very close, if you are not already there, to a debt free college education. Tip of the cap to you.

We’re still not sure where to find these aid awards that everyone is referencing. When we click on Financial Aid on the IU Self site, we only see this:

“|Aid Year|Institution|Aid Year Description|
|2022|Bloomington|No self-service access for this aid year.|”

We can’t change year or find his award anywhere. Is there a more simple view for the scholarship/aid package?
