Please beware that Indiana has very few tenant landlord laws to protect student tenants. The landlords in Bloomington
Indiana take advantage of people by keeping deposits without cause, and not following what laws do exist. One such landlord is Grant Properties. Pictures look great on the internet..but when you get here they are dumps. Make sure not to sign leases without writing your own clauses into them and know Indiana law. Student legal services is a joke here, and finding an attorney to help is expensive and hard to do. My daughter's boyfriend moved out his apartment from Grant and they kept $380.00 of a $600.00 deposit. I personally went over and cleaned the apartment so that It was returned in better condition than it was given to him. If your child has the opportunity to avoid Bloomington...do so!

So wait, because you had a bad experience with a landlord, you want people to avoid an entire university? Also, one landlord does not = an entire community. My friends, me, and significant others lived in several rental properties with different companies and had perfectly normal experiences. Signing a lease without viewing a property is always a bad idea–and yes, some are more run down than others.

Students trash these properties and then wonder why landlords come after them to replace/repair things. Trust me, I saw it first hand. Holes in walls/doors/windows/screens, massive stains on carpets, never cleaning, mounting flat screen TVs, and the list goes on and on and on
