IU Housing Selection

Hello, I was wondering what the run-down was on housing at IU. I'm going to be a freshmen and am planning on entering business school (not a direct-admit).

Are there any higher-end housing options for a double? I selected Northwest on my housing contract, but I might amend that if Northwest isn't a great location for freshmen. I also kinda want to get away from an enormous party atmosphere - I need good grades if I want to get into Kelley.

Thanks!

If you aren't into the party/North Face/going greek atmosphere, I wouldn't recommend living in the Northwest. Central is a better place.

I'm not completely against the party scene, I just don't want people throwing up on my carpet lol. Does anybody know of any higher class dorms/apartments available at IU?

Like A2Wolves6 said, choosing Central--and trying to get into Eigermann--is probably your best choice. My son was in Northwest--and ended up in McNutt--"the" party dorm. It was okay if you don't count the few people knocking on his door at 3 AM as they came back from (or continued) their partying--or the fact that the rest rooms were always having plumbing fixtures broken by some crazies. Read Dorm in Central is okay but is really big--meaning you might end with a few crazies there also.

He is quite pleased this year (his sophomore one) to be in an apartment just off the west side of campus and not in a dorm.

P.S. I should point out that it only takes about 4 or 5 crazies--even in a dorm of 8,000 students--to make it tough on the others.

what about southeast?

Read and Forest are the dorms in the Southeast neighborhood. The're very close to the music school and not too far from all of the other buildings except the business schools so it may not be the best option distane-wise if you're a business student. However, the people living there are nice and they all aren't a bunch of crazy partiers. I personally would choose the Central neighborhood if I were you because it's a pretty good place overall for business student.

Hmm, okay - I may have to change the selection on my housing contract to Central. Eigenmann is recently renovated - so that does look like the best option. If I can't get into Eigenmann, what's the 2nd best option in central?

Not a big fan of Eigenmann - too far from everything. Dorms are big and nice, but you pretty much want to take the bus to get anywhere.

You don't get a choice but I would say that Teter is the best dorm in the Central neighborhood - great balance of academic focus and partying. Wright is alright too, try and avoid Ashton - all singles and a bit nerdy.

Wright is the closest dorm in central to any classes and has a good balance of academic and social atmospheres. If you live in some places in Northwest or Southeast you will not have to worry about someone throwing up on your carpet- many of those dorms have no carpeting and you are given a disgusting rug. I agree with A2Wolves that Eigenmann is too far away, both for social and academic purposes. Wright or Teter would be the best two.

Teter seems like the best option now. I think it has wall-to-wall carpeting, it was renovated recently, and a good central location. It's next to wright which has the best food, according to students (may students spend meal points at any cafeteria?)

Yes, students may spend meal points at any cafeteria or other IU food site on campus.

hahaha. I don't think Wright has the best food on campus but I suppose it is quite convenient.

Northwest :) Foster has a nice dining place.
