Dorms at IU

So I was wondering if anyone had any information on dorms/neighborhoods. I am going to IU Bloomington next year as a freshman and need to sign up for housing. I understand that as a freshman, you can only choose a neighborhood not a specific dorm, but I was still wondering if anyone could tell me a little bit about each neighborhood. I like to party, but academics is also very important to me.

Most would try to decide between Central and Northwest. Many years back I was at Collins. Today this is choice for counter-culture type. Not likely to go Greek. Upside is great location and eastern college looking Gothic buildings. Seperate application I think is needed. My D chose Teter also Central. Decent location with air conditioning. Northwest has McNutt and Foster which is good location for business school and stadiums and perception as party places.Deposits should get in as early as possible for best choices.

The partiers/pre-Greeks live in Northwest. Usually those who are more “normal” live in Central. Most people who live in Central go out as well, but get their homework done.

I live in Northwest and I absolutely love it. Great social environment but plenty of hard workers as well (after all, the Kelley LLC is here). You’ll meet lots of fun people.

All,

Which one among the following is the designated Kelley LLC? If not, what would be your preferences? I notice that Foster and McNutt have air conditioning.

Thanks
o Briscoe
o Collins
o Foster
o McNutt

I believe that the Kelley LLC is in McNutt, but I may be mistaken. I am applying for the KLLC too

The Kelley LLC is in McNutt. I believe this coming year we will have 2 of the 6 buildings in McNutt devoted to the LLC. Though I may be wrong. Look forward to seeing you in the Kelley LLC next year. I am so pumped!!

This year KLLC is McNutt Crone, but expanding considerably next year (still in McNutt).

As you you all are aware, for dorms you can only pick the neighborhood not the actual dorm. Since I submitted my housing info back in December, do you guys believe I have a good change at getting Mcnutt over Briscoe? I’m a business major and I think living in the same buildings as the KLLC kids would be a good idea. I’d do the LLC but my roommate isn’t a business major, tough decision.

Well the KLLC will be on the north side of McNutt. The entire north building of McNutt next year is going to be living learning communities. So if you aren’t applying for a living learning community, you’ll end up on the south building of McNutt (which is not connected to the north side), and therefore you will not be in the same building as the KLLC kids.

Are there still a lot of business majors in the south building? Also would you say the social life is the same in both buildings?

There are business majors EVERYWHERE in Northwest. The social life really isn’t that much different in the KLLC than it is from anywhere else in McNutt.

Do you know anything about Eigemann? I have heard mixed reviews, including very large rooms, yet kind of out of the way. WOuld it be a good place for social kids who don’t get into Northwest?

so my uncle just told me i want to be in either Mcnutt (preferably) or Foster…so should i check northwest neighborhood?

I just finished my freshman year, and I lived in Teter… I went Greek and pledged in the fall (consider it… you won’t regret it). After initiation though it got a little weird with my floormates because none of them really went out and if they did party they did so in their dorms (DONT DO IT. GO OUT.) which wasn’t really my thing… I would suggest Northwest, thats where most of my pledge class lived and most of the guys that rush and a lot of the cuter girls on campus live Northwest. Its not dirty like people say, and thats why I chose central over it. Go for Northwest if you like to have a good time and get your stuff done. You won’t regret it either way because chances are you’ll know people in every neighborhood. Just don’t be afraid to branch out and make friends once you’re on campus - don’t stay stuck in high school with all the same friends or you won’t get the full experience. Try everything!

My Son was in the KLLC and got his work done. He also pledged greek. He loved the KLLC because it was competitive and very friendly. He made a lot of friends and learned a lot of life lessons from others.
