So I’m truly torn between both of these schools. I love Colgate but I feel IU Kelley will increase my chances for success on Wall Street. I want to eventually end up (hopefully) I Banking. Can anyone provide some insight on Colgate’s placement on the Street…and maybe a comparison between IU Kelley and Colgate?
don’t understimate Colgate’s network in Wall Street.
You feel that IU Kelley offers better access to IB than Colgate does? I suggest you consult the career centers of both
, get some statistics re outcomes and rankings and then overlay the information across their undergraduate students’ profiles. Colgate staff will be most helpful in this regard.
Good luck with your college search!
Measured by faculty scholarship, Colgate appears to have an especially strong economics department. These analyses from IDEAS reference both Colgate and IU: “Economics Departments at Liberal Arts Colleges,” “US Economics Departments.”
I am in the same position but am waiting on regular decisions answers from Colgate and a few other similar schools. DA day at Indiana really convinced me of the Kelley network so I think it comes down to small school vs large state school.
My daughter is a junior at Colgate and my son is a HS senior who will likely enroll at Kelley this year. My daughter is not an Econ major, but many of her close friends are and they have a lot of Wall Street opportunities judging by the internships they have secured for the upcoming summer. Colgate is very rigorous and the alumni network, although relatively small compared to IU/Kelley, is extremely tight knit and well-connected to Wall Street. I attended direct admit day at Kelley, as you did, and was really impressed. I think it just comes down to what kind of environment you are looking for–IU and Colgate are very different. Hamilton’s nightlife leaves a lot to be desired compared to Bloomington’s. The Greek System is strong at both schools, but there are only a handful of houses at Colgate and freshmen aren’t allowed to pledge. On average, classes will be smaller at Colgate. Colgate draws kids from all over, but it’s still very Northeast-centric. Many of my daughter’s friends’ are from Westchester County and Greenwich. Colgate’s sports are technically D1, but the school spirit doesn’t approach that of IU’s. From a career standpoint, I don’t think you can go wrong either way. You will be challenged academically at both schools. In my opinion, it just comes down to what you are looking for in a college experience outside of the classroom.
IU is a fabulous campus atmosphere. The business school is excellent and huge so you would have many opportunities. Your goals might change as your education progresses and IU has a huge number of options. I am sure that IU would be less expensive, even OOS. That, of course, is a business decision.
