IU Kelley vs. University of Miami?

Hi everyone! I'm inbetween IU Kelley and the U for college. Just visited the U and absolutely adored everything about it. I visited IU in March and was very impressed by Kelley, but felt a weird Kelley is better than the rest of IU vibe that I didn't love.
I'm from the tri-state area (NY/CT/NJ) and I want to work in NY after I graduate for sure. DEFINITELY do not want to work in Florida.
I am interested in Marketing/Finance/PR/Comm/Journalism/Media with side interests of Film/Art History.
I love the diverse and eclectic atmosphere of the U/ Miami as a city. I felt like IU was a bit more homogenous which is a bit troubling as a minority. Also I'm interested in rushing a sorority and liked how Miami's greek life is a lot more relaxed and not as dominant as it is at Indiana.
So basically I'm set on Miami, but then I took a look at the Businessweek rankings to see Indiana at 8th and Miami at like 50 something.
Financially, I have no problems. I am out of state for Indiana and the cost difference is barely anything since I get good scholarships from both. Miami is a bit more but not significantly.
My parents are really worried about getting jobs back in New York for Miami. Is Miami's reputation THAT much worse than Kelley and would I be insane to turn down Kelley/Hutton Honors College at IU for Miami? Thanks for the help!

If the cost is the same, I would suggest IU, especially if you want to wind up back in NY when you graduate.
But Bloomington is certainly not Miami.

My son is graduating in May with a degree from Kelley in Finance. He has a job in New York already from an internship he had last summer. Kelley is very respected in New York and has many alumni there who assist students in getting internships through the IU alumni network. If you plan on doing marketing, I believe Kelley’s program is currently #3 in the nation according to US News’ rankings of the individual business programs within each Business school. That’s hard to beat…

I have another son currently accepted to Miami for fall 2014, so I see what you love about the school but he is a music engineering major. For business it’s all about having a great job when you graduate and all of my other son’s friends who are in Kelley are graduating with terrific jobs in Chicago, Boston, and New York.

All of Kelley’s individual business programs rank in the top 20 as well. Finance is #9, accounting is #8, Entrepreneurship is #4 etc. Most other schools only have 1or 2 programs that crack the top 25. Their Marketing program is currently ranked #4 nationally by US News http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/business</a> Their Journalism school is very highly ranked as well.

I have no doubt that Kelley is the better business program, I just liked the atmosphere and size of Miami a lot more. Do you think my job prospects in the northeast will be significantly worse if I don’t attend Kelley?

When my son was interviewing in New York most of the other kids were from the Ivies or strong east coast programs . He felt lucky that IU was considered to be in the same league as far as business programs. Well, you could try Indiana and transfer if you hate it  Miami is one of the rare schools that has merit money for transfer students. My younger son is a transfer student to Miami.

Yes, the job prospects from SunTan U are definitely less. You will have to hustle hard on internships and jobs. But the weather is great. Just put in the work and reach out to companies.

Kelley will better prepare you for a job on Wall Street. With the Miami, you will have to really stand out.
