which one is better in terms of:
1. recruiting
2. environment
3. school as a whole (in case i decide to change my major)

sorry, UIUC typo!

Recruiting...edge goes to Kelley
Environment...Kelley (slightly warmer, better college town, beautiful campus)
School as a whole...UIUC is better. Outside of Journalism, Business, and Music....IU isn't rlly known for anything else

blahhh, have you visited both campuses yet? They're very different.

no i havent visited, planning a trip to both next week
just looking for some insight

Zouman, if you're going to be a student at IU, you need to learn a couple of things about the school. In addition to the schools you mentioned, the School of Education is ranked 19th overall, SPEA is ranked 2nd overall in the nation, the Law School is 14th overall (4th among publics), numerous departments within COAS are ranked very highly (Spanish and other languages immediately comes to mind). There's a lot more to IU than Kelley!

This is my opinion as a parent. IU is a better school for recruiting students going into business. We were told during Direct Admit day two years ago that something like 90% of the business students have jobs lined up by the time spring break rolls around. They have job fairs and have internships, etc. Recruiters rank IU very high - #9 - for these reasons.

I know two people who went to U of I (I'm in Illinois) and administration is a mess. They make mistakes they can't fix (oops - sorry, we didn't enter you into that class and we can't fit you in now). My older son couldn't even get a tour he was promised. We asked for an email to confirm the date and time (knowing how bad they are) and when we got there we were told it was a mistake and there would be no tour, but we could walk around if we liked. That was enough for us.

As far as the campuses are concerned, IU is beautiful - filled with fields and flowers and very well maintained old buildings. U of I has old buildings that look like they need some maintenance.

It's really a very personal decision, but I wanted to share my thoughts. Kids attend both and love the choice they made and they do very well, so whatever you feel is a better fit once you get there will probably be the school for you.

Good luck!

UIUC is more well rounded

Our experience with UIUC mirrors that of AimHigh. As an Illinois resident/taxpayer, I wish U of I's administration was better. We would have loved to have been able to take advantage of in-state tuition rates, but the arrogance and disorganization we experienced at the College of Business was truly ridiculous. It made us wonder, if things are this bad when they should be trying to impress you, how bad will things get once they have you hooked?

Contrast that with IU's enthusiastic freshman recruitment, a beautiful campus, a highly ranked business school, nonpretentious faculty & staff, decent OOS merit aid, and an overall welcoming atmosphere. It was a no-brainer when my son had to decide between UIUC COB and IU's Kelley.
