This weekend my dad is taking me to IU. We get into town Friday night but we leave campus as 1:00pm Saturday to head back to the airport for our flight back home. :( Yeah, it stinks, but that's the best Dad would offer me, and since we live in Texas, this will be the only trip to Bloomington. I'm glad he's taking me at all.

So, what should I see/do in those few hours at IU? Any ideas are welcome!! THANKS!!!!

I assume you’re taking the “official” tour? The tour hits a lot of the major spots on campus: the Union, the main Library, some buildings. It may not leave you much time for exploring though.

Saturday morning I would head over to the Village Deli for breakfast. Plate size pancakes are their specialty. (plate size is NOT an exageration.) Friday night you might try one of the restaurants along 4th St. or in the downtown area. Definitely take a ■■■■■ through the older wooded part of campus, closest to Indiana and Kirkwood–near the Herman B. Wells statue. Take a walk along Kirkwood. Explore the Union a bit. If you enjoy working out, be sure to stop in at the SRSC to look around. It is amazing! If your father is a basketball or sports fan, a quick stop in Assembly Hall is nice. Enter Assembly Hall on the northside to get a quick view of IU athletic history. If you can, peek in the actually basketball area to see the NCAA championship flags.

Not sure where the tour goes but make sure as rrah said you see the lovely wooded part of campus - start at Kirkwood and Indiana (at the gates) and head east down the path, past the union to Beck Chapel.

Swissmiss3, enjoy your visit. I see that the weather looks nice this weekend! We are bringing our son next week for a quick, overnight trip (from Maine). It would be great if you could post a report when you return, or if you have any suggestions, post them on this thread. Have fun!

I just visited last week and must say it sealed the deal for me after being caught between IU and another school. I would advise you after your done taking the tour to check out your major’s school. Kelley really blew me away and helped make my decision easy.

Personally, I think the student union (country’s largest), the murals at the auditorium, the art museum (very impressive), and the Dunn’s Woods area (already mentioned) are the most impressive. The gardens just west of the Music Center facility and south of the Auditorium are also pretty nice–but best in the summertime.

Sycamore Hall is also kind of neat. It is small, but very unusual as teaching buildings go.
