hi!
I was wondering if i should apply to IUB....I am almost sure i should get in.
However, I was wondering how good is it??? Compared to US universities, compared to other German Unis...I mean, it doesnt feature anywhere in the Top rankings...Is it really worth applying for engineering..?

If u r at IUB, how has been ur experience in Germany??

Well, after all the decision is yours.....but just to inform you, they have BA degree for engineering or B.Sc.(which is of three yrs..)...
If u want these degrees, then its perfectly fine....but if ur lookin for BE degree (4yrs) then US unis r there for u...

For engineering, I would stay in Germany. Again, I am not a German, but Germans really have a great reputation in terms of engineering in the world, esp. in Automation, EE, ...

IUB is a very good school in America, you can also try to apply to their Hutton Honor College and get even better education experience.

I'm currently studying Computer Science at IUB. The curriculum is very strong but very very demanding. The amount of work required is definitely more than a US univ would demand. It is relatively very new, so it doesn't feature in most rankings. However, DAAD has ranked all its program rather well. As far as I remember, last year it did not cost me anything to apply.
And IUB from the coming year would be Jacobs University Bremen.

I am a student here at IUB as well. I'd say its good for sure, but its not supremely good. The living conditions and all are probably as good as any- i hear even better than some US universities, but it still has to do a lot in order to be ranked among the top tier, it is ranked at something like 197 in Technology according to the Times Higher education supplement if i am not recalling incorrectly, which can probably be atttributed to the fact that its a relatively new university- only 6 years old. But if you cant get into the Ivy League, it is a pretty good alternative. However, keep this as a second option, your first preference should be the top ranked universities.

how would you compare it to NUS? People think i'm crazy for preferring it over NUS ( i got into NUS last year but still decided to take the year off)

The happiness of students is not proportional to the rank of the college they attend. Many people can be perfectly happy in a little university in Europe; they might live the greatest days of their lives there, why not? And they might become great professionals, get famous, do what they like through their lives, get old and die. There's a place for everyone in the world. To be sincere, the vast majority of the people I admire didn't study at an Ivy...top people, top college? Such a simple idea.

ya...I agree with u Kyo7.....u dont need to get into a TOP college to be a TOP person(it is true if ur just a BIG NAME lover..)...TOP persons are made by THEMSELVES...(college dont make anything to be frank!! it is us who make things!!)..

Waleed, think a lot over it man!, u should evaluate all the external factors. NUS is definetely better ranked and more famous, but the problem is, you spend 4 years extra over there, and IUB is cheaper.

ppl from here have gone on to Harvard/Duke/MIT and all the other top univ's and keeping in mind the fact that the graduating class was of about only 200 students, thats a good ratio.
Summing it up, at IUB, u have a better probability to make it to an even better university after graduation due to the fact that the US universities rank it pretty high-they know abt you rigorous curriculum

virtually everyone gets financial aid, if u need it ofcourse!. but usually, there is a tuition postponement of 8,000 Euros attached, to be paid gradually over 7 years. Or if you like earlier.
There are some scholarships of the full fess available, but only one or two. One of the guys who obtained it this year has a perfect SAT I score .

Apply early- chances to get a better deal are higher

and what about getting admitted itself....I would like to show u my stats and want to get some feedbacks about my chances...
