I've already messed up and I need advice

I am currently at a large public school and I think I've already messed up this semester. It's only the 3rd week of school and I'm already letting the stress of college life to get to me. I can't seem to make it to class and I get my stuff together. I know I'm a smart, but I'm starting to think that college just isn't for me. If I don't do well this semester, then I'll fail out. I really want to transfer to a smaller school, but I just need to get through this semester first. If anyone has ever been in this position before and has advice to get me through I would greatly appreciate it!

Pull yourself together. Concentrate on your academics. Go to class. Read ahead in the textbooks so you have a better idea what the professors are talking about during the lectures. Start papers early so you are not caught stressing about them at the last minute.
Go to class. Sit towards the front of the class.

If you think you may transfer in the future, you need to focus on your classes now.
In order to transfer, you will need professor recommendations. So, try to make yourself stand out in the classroom. Be visible. Participate. Go to office hours well before exams and papers are due to clear up anything that you may not understand. Taking advantage of office hours also helps the professor to get to know you (remember–you’ll need professor recommendations in order to transfer). When going to office hours, have your questions written down—be prepared and don’t waste the professor’s time. Most professors are encouraging so don’t fear meeting them during their open office hours.

You can turn things around for this semester, but you need to start now. Write out a schedule each day of the things you want to accomplish. Check them off as you complete them. Make time to get some physical activity—take a brisk walk around campus, work out at the fitness center, join an intramural team, etc.

Eat healthy food, drink plenty of water, and get some sleep. I know it sounds cliche, but a healthy body promotes a healthy mind.

Good luck.

you’re a man right? be a man.

GO TO CLASS, even if you can’t bring yourself to study, haven’t done the readings for that day, whatever. It forces you into a routine, you’ll get some benefit from being there, and profs look more favorably upon students who actually show up.

Do what you can to catch up now and not fall further behind.

If you’re planning to transfer, keep that in mind as your goal. Use it to motivate yourself to do your work.

There’s no magic secret shortcut for turning things around, other than doing the work and putting in the time.

The academic part of school is pretty much the same everywhere. No matter where you go, you’ll have to go to classes, read, study, take tests, write papers, etc. School environments will be different, of course, but if you can focus on your academics and have good solid habits there, it will be easier to adapt to other aspects of college life.

Just focus on getting through the semester. It’s totally doable and still very early. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that because you’ve already messed up, messing up more isn’t going to matter.

I am a Mom who saw your thread. You sound like maybe you are having some trouble with depression. Have you gone to the school’s counselor, or the chaplain of your denomination, and told them how you are? Lots of freshman feel overwhelmed in the first weeks of college (I sure did) but you sound like it is getting to you a lot.

The advice from the others is good----take every day one bit at a time. I hope you are doing better soon!

Please go to your college counseling office!! Lots of kids have adjustment issues. You can get through this!
