Someone at my school applied to 30+ schools.

I'm serious

^^that person = insane

im only applying to 10 schools max...3 safety, 3 match, 4 reach...

20ish, most are reach, is reasonable if playing the number game.

I just want to know from people on this website specifically, why so many schools? Just for a safety net or could you really just not bear to cut down your list?
On the other hand, a senior last year told me that he applied to 24 schools. And he really didn't know why.

A friend of mine applied to 18 because her parents wanted her to have the best options. They actually encouraged her to apply for more.

my parents wanted me to apply to like 7 more. (i applied to 11) They wnated me to include Princeton, dartmouth, upenn, uchicago, UCB, UCLA, brown, duke, georgetown, JHU.

i applied to 13 first time around and this time im only going for 7 or 8. I had great ec's, div1 recruited athlete, and great test scores but terrible GPA. i didn't know how schools would judge it, so i figured i'd play it safe and apply to a whole slew of different places.

believe me... i haven't been out of the house for let's say 3 weeks because of my "record breaking" amount...

between 30-35 schools.

accepted to 2 state schools already. (not UCs)

yeah i'm pretty psycho.

but i applied to all of the UCs and that counts as one application so around 20 i guess if you just count apps.

i think there's no problem in applying to as many colleges as u want to because you want options. that's true for me.

Am a junior, but I have heard of a few people in my school who are applying to as many as 20!

Dunno what I'm going to do yet... probably will apply to 10 at most... but could change over time.

I applied to 10 schools. So far, I got accepted into 2 that I am considering. I didn't have to pay for 3 schools. Allegheny since I got a special application, Rose-Hulman just because lol, and NYU because my parents make less than 20k a year. Sooo that was nice. My guidance counselor said she'd write requests for fee waivers for me, but I just have to pay for Purdue and RIT and to send my SAT scores to NYU, Purdue, and RIT. I guess I'm done with apps. It's kind of disappointing because I don't think I'll go where I reallllly want to go but we'll see.

i did 12, and my teacher thought that was a lot.

I Can't Stress How Stupid ThIS Is. Have You Ever Though Of GOING TO Grad School? Scratch Those Schools From Your List Now.
I applied to one match, whivh was stupid. Now I of course I am applying to 6 schools (which are reaches for everyone) for transfer.
I think 10 is perfect. 6 reaches 2 matches and 2 safeties.

I, being the guy who applied to 24 schools, have made these observations. While it was a lot of work, it became easier and easier to write the supplemental essays (almost all were on the common app) because I reused a lot of the same themes. Also I have the ackward position of being a B+/A- student (except not really because my school has weird grades) with 2080 SATs and "weird" extracirriculars so I have a shot almost everywhere but am also not a lock almost anywhere.

^ that's true. it did become easier and easier. a lot of the questions were rather repetititve.

whats wrong with doing 23 collegs...law of numbers will help you

a kid from my high school applied to ~35. he paid two or three grand on app. fees. =/

Why would anyone want to do that?

I applied to nine, thought it was a good amount.

4-6 reachy schools
3-5 match/safties

whoever applied to 20+ schools where the heck did you apply and how much did it cost?

I applied to 6: 2 reaches, 2 matches, & 2 safties. I got into my 1st choice reach :)
