My father recently died ( That’s why I haven’t been on this board for a few weeks.) and I’m not handling it very well.

Much as I’ve tried to focus and study and do well, I’m behind in assigned reading, flunked a Physiological Psychology Exam ( There’s four more left…but I’ve basically killed any chance of my getting an “A” in that class after bombing the first test.) and I can barely remember the lectures from any of my classes, even though I take copious notes and pay attention.

I don’t think that I can handle college right now. However, if I drop most of my classes that would eliminate any chance of my being able to apply to the UC’s and CSU’s for Fall 2006. ( I would be short by about a semester for the unit requirements.) I don’t want to spend another year in my CCC. I hate it.

I’m taking 16 semester units ( 5 classes: Physiological Psychology,Speech, Intro to Theater, Political Science 1, Elementary Algebra.) and I want to drop two classes ( Psych and Intro to Theater.) That would bring me down to 10 units. If I do so, I’d feel like a failure. But my sanity is going down the toliet right now and I don’t know what else to do.

Did you talk to somebody about it? School nurse? You need to get it documented so when it comes to explaining to transfer schools you have it ready! I am sorry :(

that sucks hang on there...you can do it. I would suggest talk to your counselor and explain your problem..maybe you can take a break and come back again later? I am sure transfer schools would understand your situation.

Secondly, you should talk to a counselor about advice on how to get through this and what to do about your classes. I don't know whether you should do school or not but I do know what you should do if by April you are ready to restart school with renewed vigor:

I would seriously consider dropping all classes with grades you do not want. Take the Ws. If you feel emotionally ready, find the nearest CC on the quarter system and enroll there to make up the missing units. CC quarter system generally starts in April so time is running short for this option. You will probably need to crash a few classes to get the sections and instructors you want. Stick with ALL easy professors for this quarter if possible. Use ratemyprofessors.com. You need an easy load through these troubling times.

Another option is to ask instructors for an Incomplete in classes (before the last day for Ws) where you are passing and can realistically recover to get a desirable grade.
