Hey guys, I am a 4.0 student and I am applying to very competitive schools such as Stanford and Ivies, I have been afraid that I might drop to a B in one of my classes, would that send red flags to colleges? Would one or two grade drops make me lose my credibility as a good student (Not on purpose but due to difficulty of the course).

No. Not all accepted applicants have 4.0’s, and many 4.0/2400 applicants get rejected. Grades are but one part of the application.

Thank you, so straight A’s senior year is a goal but not necessarily a make or break?

Straight As senior year are a goal but not a make or break. But remember, the schools with the lowest acceptance rates have a plethora of kids with straight As or almost straight As and SATs of 2100+/ACT 32+… these things are more “qualifiers” – what will be the make or break is what you can do to set yourself apart as memorable. It doesn’t mean you have to invent something, or start an NGO in Africa - it means that your application is packaged in such a way (your recs, your ECs, the classes you chose, and your essay) that allows the college rep to get a sense of who you are, to remember you…to be able to see you at their school as a successful student that can not only gain something from their college but also contribute something to that same school.

Thank you!
