Ivy League for good athlete

I’m currently a freshman. I have a 2.8 GPA first semester because I didn’t try. I currently have a 3.5 second semester.
I am one of the top freshman in my state and in the future may be able to run large D1 college times. I also am a very good football player.
Is it possible for me to go to an Ivy League school if I bring up my grades sophomore and Jr year and do well on ACT and SAT.

Yes.

So I can go to an IVY league school just because I’m talented. What is the minimum GPA and SAT I would need.

No, you can not go to any Ivy League school just because you are talented. But if you work hard at both your sport and academics, and are successful at both, then a 2.8 first semester freshman year will not keep you out.

There are no real minimums for GPA and SAT/ACT in the Ivy, excepting the AI floor. I would not worry about that too much, since there are at most a handful of kids being recruited near the floor in any given year, all of whom are extraordinary atheletes. Getting recruited in the Ivy is nothing like meeting NCAA eligibility standards.

what would I need to get for grades though and what is the minimum AI floor

You shouldn’t be shooting for the minimum. You have one semester that is low, and you can’t afford another. Keep getting 3.5 or above, and start working on your test prep now.

You’ll also need to be a good athlete, so keep running, jumping, swimming, or throwing.

What sport are you trying to get recruited for…track or football? Makes a difference as one is a head count sport and the other equivalency. 3.5 is too low of a GPA for Ivies. My son is a recruited track athlete at an Ivy and he had a 4.4 weighted GPA and 30 ACT. Plus he graduated with 7 AP courses most with a 4or 5 in the exams. So it’s tough to get into an Ivy as an athlete. The coach can signal to admissions that you’re a recruit but admissions has to gauge that you will be successful academically because what good is it that you’re a decent athlete but can’t handle the courses?
Good luck, but definitely cast your net wider and look at other schools that fit your times, GOA and test scores.
