Representatives from 6 of the Ivies + Stanford are holding an evening program in my city at a very posh hotel on the nice side of town. It's probably just a casual meet-the-admissions-officers event but the location of it is troubling to a degree, it's the sort of place where you would be glared at for wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

Should I make effort to dress appropriately or do you think I'm over-thinking this?

i don’t know about the hotel or anything, but where i am there are college admission fairs at the actual schools themselves and people just wear jeans and a shirt and stuff. but ours start at 6 and it takes a couple hours to actually get to that school so time-wise it’s acceptable to wear them i guess.

if you’re a girl, wear a simple black dress that could seem casual or semi-formal and ballet flats. that way, if it’s a casual convention you won’t feel too out of dress and if it’s formal you’ll still fit in.

if you’re a guy… non-skinny jeans in black and an a&f or hollister-like collar shirt. it’s good for both occasions as well.

Wear jeans and a tshirt. Make sure that if you wear a hoodie or something you can easily remove it, because it tends to get really packed and VERY hot in places like that.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. When I go on college visits or when colleges come to my school, I just dress casually. Obviously don’t wear anything completely inappropriate and definitely not anything offensive, but since most people don’t wear anything like that in their day-to-day lives, your standard clothing will be fine.
