ivy league level sat score?

guys...I got a 2290 =[
I thought I might break the 2300 line...

well, this was my first time taking the sat
and i was hoping i'd never have to take it again
but...should i retake? if i get anything higher, does that significantly help in admissions to top universities? or is 2290 ok? i kno sat scores aren't everything but i don't want 2290 to put me in a disadvantage...

Anything above a 2100 is fine for the Ivy’s. Chillax.

You know, it depends on everything else about you–ECs, recs, essays, etc.

My sister, at the University of Pennsylvania, only had a 2250 (she retook it and received a 2240)…however, she was pretty strong EC-wise and rec-wise (highest GPA in the history of the school district…teachers loved her). Plus, we live in Arkansas.

So 2290? I think it’s fine, depending on the rest of your application. If you’re in Cali or NY, you should definitely re-take it. But in AR or the Dakotas? I think you’ll be okay. =P

“only had a 2250” Are you daft? That’s an amazing score.
I would say 2100-2400 is the range for those accepted (no hooks)

^ I disagree. For IVYS specifically, A 2200-240 seems more suitable, and thats if everything is balanced (as in a 750, 750, 740). If you got a 800, 770, 690 then definetly retake because all you need to do is work on that one section.

thanks guys

well, i live in CA …does it matter a lot?
i have a perfect gpa of 5.0 (rank one in class) and i do some things i love, related to science…i am really debating whether this sat score of 2290 will make me look bad in the competition.

any other advices?
i got 790 cr 770 math and 730 writing. i usually do best in writing…dunno what the hell happened. i am afraid that when i retake it, my cr will go down lol =[
and math…i thought i’d get 800…=[

well, enough complaining!lol
any other ideas?

don’t retake…there’s more to life than SAT scores. plus, think about what else you could do with that time instead of preparing/taking it. hours of time…

haha after you posted your score breakdown and you gpa (doesnt gym count against you?) I wout have to say an emphatic no. Dont retake it.

I seriously don’t think anyone has any right or reason to be fearful of a score of at least 2100 on that bloody exam.

for the top 3, 2290 will land you in the 70%ile I think. You can check the exacts…

for the bottom Ivy’s, your in the top 10%, I think. once again, you can check the exacts.

650 CR
680 Writing
710 Math

Is that an ok score if I want to go to Cornell?
It’s not even at the 2100…=((
I do have a very good gpa though…

retake that = /

^ so what schools should I be looking at with those scores? =( Any hope?

RAlec114 is roughly correct in his percentile assessment. If one feels that his or her performance can be improved, I would certainly suggest attempting it once more. There is absolutely nothing wrong with retaking tests that you feel can potentially enhance your candidacy.

lol i thought olleger was directing “retake that =/” to me so i got really scared for a sec =p

thanks guys…
if i completely trust my ECs, I wouldn’t be worried…but as a junior who is just starting to build up some good credentials, nothing is really solidified.
i am just afraid that after i retake, my writing will go up (guarantee it-- i have gotten 800s on practice ones) BUT my cr will go down (my concentration level in those sections varies depending on the level of boringness of the passages LOL).

w/ 2290, am i in the sort of “ok/safe” range for the schools like stanford and harvard? well, does my gpa help in balancing it out? wouldn’t schools see that i just took it only once and think that i am really a person who isn’t so crazy about “scores”? cuz really…i am not. i want to devote more time to my passion in sci than review for sat again!

so if 2290 won’t “hurt” me, i guess don’t retake?

i feel like i am playing a mind game lol
i seriously can’t decide!!!

here’s the thing-- i honestly remember erasing right answers (2 or three) and deliberately omitting them b/c i guess i got scared… and then i neglected to omit problems i found confusing. so that adds to my frustration…

AND
2290 Vs. 2300
with just a 10 pt difference…2290 looks much inferior lol

There is no safe score for Harvard, Stanford or any similar schools. They have really complicated ways of making sure the class is balanced on many factors, as long as you have high credentials, which you absolutely do. As Harvard has said many times, they could throw out the entire class they accept, take the next 2,000 and not see any difference in quality. So there is a “crapshoot” quality to these things anyway, which is why you have to apply to all of them (if you would find any of the HYPS types acceptable) as well as about 3 high level safeties. For you that would be schools like Duke, Vandy, Chicago, etc. You might even get turned down by one of them, just because admissions is a funny game. But far more likely you would get in, and that you will get into at least one of the Ivy types. Just relax and focus on your AP classes.

thanks fallenchemist-- if felt comforting to read what u wrote. tho i knew that, it’s better to hear it again, just to reassure myself, u kno?

thanks everyone
i decided to just leave it and spend the rest of the year focusing on ECs and other stuff. if the college denies me for my SAT score after i have built solid credentials, then ya kno what? i don’t wanna go there anyway then. =]

for the rest of u guys stressed out b/c of scores- there are more chances…but there are also more than just the scores!

dude, theres a lovely thing called score choice. Even if your scores go down, it doesnt matter because Harvard for sure score choices, but IDK about Stanford. The only prominent school I remember that doesnt score choice is U Penn.

Usually people consider “ivy” SAT to be 2100 or higher. A “safe” SAT (if one can even be said) would probably be 2300. But thank goodness for score choice, as others have mentioned before me. :D
