I just completed my freshman year of high school, but I have big hopes of attending an Ivy league school, preferably Harvard. I’ve taken the hardest classes available at my small 3A school, and plan to be in basketball, track, band, student council, beta club, and cheerleading for all four years on the varsity level. I’ve made straight A’s my whole life and my current weighted GPA is a 4.23 (unweighted 4.0) I made a 1390 on my SAT this year and a 1350 on my PSAT. I plan to work harder and get those scores higher. Is there anything I should do to help my application to these schools? What else would they look for? And yes it is a little early to be planning on this but it’s always been my dream. Thanks!
“Is there anything I should do to help my application to these schools?”
Yes, think less of ivy league schools now, and just enjoy doing basketball, track, band, student council, beta club, and cheerleading. When the time comes for applying college, you will be ready. Stress out early in life is not healthy and don’t let applying college define your high school life.
Maybe try to enjoy your high school life.
If you really wanna get into that high level of schools, find something you really enjoy and are passionate about and just hone in on that. I wouldn’t worry too much about your SAT and PSAT until the summer after your sophomore year.
I would try to figure out what you’re doing next summer during your winter break, that’s something I almost messed up on lol.
There are 3,000 universities to choose from and LOTS of options, including scholarships. Ivy leagues aren’t “all that, and a bag of chips!” Explore your ambitions and options and find a college that works for you.
R-E-L-A-X and enjoy being what… 15?
As much as it pains me to write this… reading the data released as part of the Harvard lawsuit, the biggest thing you could do to boost your chances has nothing to do with academics. Any chance you could get your skills to the level that you’d be a recruited athlete in any sport? Because that’s the single largest thing that will give you a boost.
