Hi I am a student athlete from Singapore and I am interested in swimming for the ivies (e.g. Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth).
I am just curious about some of the ivy league swimmer’s SAT/ACT scores because I recently did the SAT. I am a breastroker and I specialize in 200m breastroke (2:20 second in short course pool).
Your time is men’s SCM, right?
You need to ask the coach at a specific school. You have asked a similar question before, I think, and I mentioned that you should really check the swim times of those schools because they are very fast. You need to be realistic about what your times can do at an Ivy. Your 2br time (which is quite respectable by the way), if converted from scm to scy, would have just barely made the A final at the NESCAC meet this year. NESCAC is an incredibly fast Division 3 conference, but still. Your converted time also would have been 25th (out of 26) at the Ivy Mens Champ this year. This means you probably would not be “recruited” at the Ivies, but could walk on and hope to make the team (many of those teams do not cut but everyone does not travel with the team and almost no one gets $); therefore your test scores and grades would have to be the same as any other student who hopes to get in. These are purely numbers NOT a personal judgement, but at least the numbers are there for the researching! Do check these out: Ivy results (no Brown this year due to team issues) https://princeton_ftp.sidearmsports.com/custompages/swimmeets/2018ivies/index.htm
Assuming you have the times to be recruitable, it will depend by school, the coach and the depth of the coach’s recruiting class. The Ivies are bound by rules related to an agreed Academic Index formula dependent on grades and test scores. There are lots of sites that explain the process and the role of the Academic Index. In general the coach has to hit an overall AI average for his/her recruits, so if you are an Olympic class swimmer, you can be recruited even with a relatively low AI, but if you are at the bottom of the talent list, you will need a very high AI (maybe even higher than a non-recruit) to balance against the superstar with the low AI. The first step though is to make sure you are even athletically recruitable. The coach, if interested, will tell you the GPA and test score targets you need to hit. Don’t expect it to be much lower than that of the general student body unless you are super super talented.
yes scm
What is your SAT score?
Each Ivy would have a slight different AI mandates. I believe HYP would have the highest AI and the schools you listed likely would be slightly lower. This year Harvard’s mandated AI was 221. To be safe for admission, you would try to at least get your AI at that level or above. The coaches of each school would be the best person to find out how well you have to do on the standardized tests.
dont know yet but from my practice tests, I am like around 1350 ish.
