You thought Havard had the best location? It's in Cambridge, which sucks. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Anyway for me, my list goes like this:

Nicest campus (based upon what I was looking for):
1) Penn
2) Dartmouth
3) Princeton
4) Columbia
5) Yale
6) Cornell
7) Brown
8) Harvard

Social life:
1) Penn
2) Dartmouth
3) Brown
4) Princeton
5) Columbia
6) Yale

7) Cornell
8) Harvard

Campus/ surrounding city safety:
1) Princeton
2) Dartmouth
3) Cornell
4) Brown
5) Harvard
6) Columbia
7) Yale
8) Penn

Quality of Undergrad education (overall):
1) Penn (because of my interest in business)
2) Princeton
3) Dartmouth
4) Yale
5) Columbia
6) Brown
7) Cornell
8) Harvard

Location:
1) Columbia (only because of NY)
2) Penn
3) Brown
4) Harvard
5) Yale
6) Princeton (I ranked it pretty low cuz I live 15 min away, lol)
7) Dartmouth
8) Cornell

penn is in a "ghetto" area. its known to be a not so good area of philly. students are not recommended to walk around outside at night alone. like 2 years ago they had a few robberies/rapes.

Ghetto is a pretty strong word choice. Have you been to Penn do you even know what a ghetto is? Penn is not in or near a ghetto. Penn is a metro or urban campus and therefore any plagues of a city are to be found.

WesternMass, having attended both Columbia and Dartmouth as an undergrad I can honestly say I felt Dartmouth was far better. Dartmouth's academic departments are small and without grad programs, but the teaching and attention is unbelievable.

Columbia is one of the safest campuses in the Ivy League. New York City is the safest big city in the country, and Morningside Heights is one of the safest neighborhoods in Manhattan. You guys sure do hate Columbia.

I haven't visited nor attended all eight ivy league schools so it's hard to judge "social life", "campus safety," and particularly "Quality of Undergrad education."

Funny, but I think most of you are in the same boat.

Well, I have been to all of them and attended one, but not as an undergrad. However, I haven't been to Cornell, Yale & Columbia since the 1970s, so my perceptions of those may be a bit dated. ;).

Well put, thinkjose. All rankings do is perpetuate an incredibly unfair (not to mention probably false) quantification and stereotype of what really goes on at these colleges. Anecdotal evidence is scarcely more helpful.

im loving this pennlove. anyway, just don't be a dumbass and you'll be fine and will have no problem with safety. i'm going to be frank. i've grown up a relatively sheltered and protected (although ridiculously awesome and amazing and fun and most likely better than yours if you're reading this!) life and most of the blacks i came in contact with were on tv and in movies. i did have a decent amount of black friends, but they too were relatively upper class -- so i should say that most of the "black culture" i came in contact with was in the media. anyway, i've only been in philly for a short while and it's already nice interacting with more average african americans (and other africans) and learning from them and breaking stereotypes that i might have subconsciously had. so yeah, there might be some bad ones (who obviously aren't even all bad. some rabbi i know locked his keys in his car in west philly and be paid some of african americans to break into his car for him -- they had all the tools on them already), but they don't seem to bother us much. point: the "bad" parts of philly (which aren't that bad and don't effect us too much) povide even more wonderful opportunities.
