Who all is going for the Hertog program???

@osshsjuj, I would say that if your son has an interest in political science/ IR, or any type of social science for that matter, this program would be GREAT for him.

I wonder, do we get to do something for the 4th of July? After all, it is an American history program!!

@osshsjuj
I just wouldnāt risk itā¦ I mean, if he was not offered a place in his first choice program, then that means he wouldnāt have gotten in if he didnāt write what his second choice was. I would recommend that you respect their decisionā¦ Apparently this is a really prestigious program and I honestly donāt think āappealingā is going to make any difference, if not make the student look kindaā¦ bad.

But overall this should be a quality experience. I heard that you donāt necessarily need to be a debater to attend this program, but if he is trying to hone his writing skills, he may be better off at a writing institute/program. People shouldnāt attend this program just because of its prestige. Same thing with colleges I think.

Grand Strategy here as well! Hmm, I think I remember some names on here. So, any fellow TASP rejects haha? In earnest, Iām actually kind of glad I didnāt make it since I love the ISPās course content so much more.

Note: If anyone hasnāt applied yet, you might want to get a move on. Admissions are rolling and GS is nearly filled up from what I hear.

I have aā¦weird question, but I seriously have no idea or any other way to find out. Probably someone who has already attended the program knows bestā¦

How are we expected to dress during the program? During the regular classes/lectures do you go in suits or in casual clothing?

My question is provoked by some photos that I sawā¦

Mine was almost 2000 - pretty much 3 pages with several lines on the last one left blank. But it was meaningful. If you can be concise and can say what you have to say in fewer words, then go for it. I donāt think this will be a problem. But donāt just put stuff in which is irrelevant so as to just reach the upper limit. Thatās not the point. Answer the 6 questions and see how it comes. Anything between 2 to 3 pages will do. :)

@apple12 I specifically asked about the length and they said that many applications this year went over the page limit so, yeah, youāre definitely fine. Mine was 3000 words and about 4 pages long but I tend to be verbose so anywhere from 2-4 pages is probably good.

@amk933 Theyāre sending book forms, packing lists, and all that jazz to those accepted later on. But Iām pretty sure itās casual, so no worries.

Yeah! I am from Beijing and I got the letter of aceeptance last days from Mr. David and Prof. Luong! I will go to Hertog Program and see you this summer
ivey.young@yahoo.ca

Do you think this programās admission is competitive or just so-so? Since I have to fly to New Haven from Beijing (for 16 hours, amazing!) and I am not sure this is valuable or not much.
I have interests in the topic, but I am not sure about its reputation. No info on google~
Thanks

Studies in Grand Strategy is known for its <20% acceptance, apparently. idk about the two other programs b/c those programs are new. its their first year doing that program.
