goood luck!

I GOT IN! k. now i’m gonna go join the facebook group, i was afraid to jinx myself before haha.

congrats harvard hopeful!

were you early or regular decision?

regular decision. I was actually surprised at how soon I found out. Apps were due by May 3rd and I got my acceptance email on may 4th (even though the site says that notifications might not be received until June 5th)

wow i never thought this thread would have been bumped up again into discussion
but congratulations to all those who were admitted!!!
it really was an awesome experience, in terms of meeting exceptionally intelligent people from around the country
hope you guys have a great time

awwww baby scholars! i had so much fun last year.
again, pm me if you all have questions
like someone on the FB group said you’d be printing a lot. not true. i barely printed anything.

Hey epigram,
Would it be possible for you to join this year’s facebook group so that it’s easier for us to communicate and ask questions to you?

See, I would, but I feel like that would be kind of weird, no? And a large part, at least in my mind, of the Ivy Scholars experience is coming to the program with absolutely no expectations (or ridiculously high, unmitigated expectations and anxiety). So, in an effort to perhaps discourage you from asking too many questions, I’m not going to join the group. That being said, y’all are welcome to ask about, like, clothing, or food, or whether you need to pack your books (in the sense that these things are all somewhat surface and I would feel totally comfortable filling you in)…y’all are welcome to ask anything, but I probably won’t answer some of it.

oh I get it…
well then I’ll ask something that probably everyone wants to know…
do we have to pack all of our books?

JPRSBR

Definitely err on the side of bringing them. You’ll have a few lectures specifically about the books themselves (like Art of War), and you’ll want to have them on hand to reference. You can also sign up for seminars on the books (there was def. one on The Prince for us), and you’ll need said book for the seminar. I know they’re a hassle to pack, but you really want to come prepared! Another option is not to pack all the books in the public domain and just pull them up online if you need to reference them. I didn’t read/bring any of the optional books (I would encourage you to do so; I couldn’t read them because of a time issue, but I read some of them after ISP was over), and that worked out fine for me. Hope that helps!

what was your favorite academic aspect of the program?

The best academic aspect of the program is by far the Marshall Brief, which you’ll be choosing your topic preferences for before you arrive. It’s a really great experience in terms of working in a small group under very stringent deadlines. It’s probably the program’s best balance of the intellectual and the preprofessional (and I think ISP definitely sways preprofessional in its offerings and attendees).

hello, anybody for 2011 ivy scholars??!! and for the almuni, was your experience worth it? i bet it was, but still for the sake of asking :D

hi apple12, i’m very excited to apply for ivy scholars! good luck =D
does anyone know of other summer programs, paying or non-paying internships, jobs etc. that are comparable to ivy scholars in regards to the focus?

I’m going to bump this. Ivy Scholars was undoubtedly THE greatest experience of my high school career. If you can afford to go, APPLY! it’s is NOT a waste of time/money. Probably one of the best summer programs out there for those interested in politics/history.

Do you work with actual professors from Yale? If so were you able to get to know them very well?

yes, you do. 3-4 from yale. and guess professors from other visiting universities. not all of them. the only one that matters in terms of “i wanna go to yale” is the program director Dr. Luong. If you make a lasting impression at the program, he does have pull with the admissions people.

A note: it is an academic boot camp. People spend the two weeks under one of three conditions: hyper efficient, under achieving, or over caffienated.

Yet you’ll love it.

Not to take anything away from the peace corps, but this is one of the “hardest jobs you’ll ever love”

I might add, the people there are amazing, high caliber students. If you are one of those “Will this help my application” type of people, all I can say is that a ludicrous number of people have gotten into HYPSM and HYPSM level schools. And a few into Georgetown SFS, if thats your thing :P

i am so excited to apply for this but im afraid ill have to apply for the regular decision b/c of time will this affect my chances of getting in?

No. Honestly, it shouldnt. I applied way late under RD and I got in no prob so I wouldn’t worry. P.S Ben, why r u so insistent on taunting me in every forum!
