Is this program competitive to get into or just a checkbook kind of admission?

If I remember correctly from last year, around 1/4 of applicants got in.
I’d say it’s pretty competitive, partly because it’s not an incredibly well-publicized program so a lot of the students who do apply are really good.

Which of the three programs do you think Is the best?

what should be the main focus of the essay? can the essay be creative like not a normal app essay where you simply state why you want to go and stuff? what do you think was the best part of your app essay? thanks :D

They’ve added two new programs this year, so I have no idea.

Last year we all did the grand strategies program, but this year there’s also the Hertog program and the Global Leaders Development program. I might actually apply to the Hertog program later this year if I don’t make it to the next round of TASP.

I had a great time doing the grand strategy program, and I’m sure you’ll have an awesome time doing that. As to the other programs, I think they’ll be great as well, since Prof. Luong is running them after all. Either way, I think any of the three programs would be great. Just make sure you’re eligible for the ones you pick in the end!

What are the advantages of applying early decision to this program? Unfortunately, I won’t be taking my first SAT until March (meaning the earliest I would receive my scores is March 31). Is it worth it to wait for regular decision so that I can submit my scores? I feel that if I wait, I’ll run the risk of not doing as well as I would like on the SAT and ultimately only weaken a regular decision application.
any feedback?
Thanks!!

I applied early with only my PSAT scores and got in. I think they look at your essay more than anything else.

I applied with no scores at all and it was fine. I agree that essays are probably the part they look the most at.

what did you write in your essays?

Our freshman D applied this week. Her essay touched on her academic interests and goals, ECs and leadership experiences, and her reasons for wanting to be in the program. I’ll post here again when she gets a response from the program.

I applied this week, too. I can’t wait for March 29 to come. I am so impacient and anxious about the response…

By the way, if I am applying early, is there any chance that they will respond before March 29 or how does it work? Do they strictly follow the dates or could I get my decision ahead of time? :)

amk, I bet you’ll know sooner than that. . . but I don’t really know.

I applied, too! This looks like a great program - hope I get in despite being a little late to send it! :-/

best two weeks of my life – definitely worth it. i met amazing people that i’ve continued to stay in touch with. good luck to everyone who applied!

(last year I applied early for this program, though now they have added additional programs so I don’t know how those new programs compare)

Bumping to see whether anyone has received a response from Ivy Scholars lately?

D’s app was delivered on the early deadline for her program (March 1) and she’s getting anxious with the decision deadline approaching and no news.

The situation in my case is the same. I sent my documents on time for the early deadline, but I have not received any news yet - good or bad. So tell her not to worry…obviously the practice is to tell everyone on the very day itself (29 March) when it comes down to the early stage of the admissions process. If you look back at some of the older pages of this thread, you will find users in the same situation that we are in right know with the only difference that they were applying for previous summers. Therefore, it just looks like it is a common practice to not release any information before the designated date.

Good luck to your daughter! :)

strange question: but what font was your essays in?
my is in font 11 right now… do you think that’s okay?

apple12 - you can be assured that your font will not play a huge role in impacting your admittance to this program (i went there in the summer 2009, i wrote mine in calibri)

best of luck to all of you guys!

Thanks. :D

apple12, I used TNR 12 - the very standard one. I don’t think that matters at all…

Did anyone apply for Hertog? I got in and was interested to know of anyone else who got a reply.

I put the Global Leadrs Devlopment Program as my preferred one and the Hertog one as secondary. We could put them in order of preference with numbers…

Did you get the decision the very last day for notification of admitted students who applied early? That waiting is killing me. I am extremely impacient.
