I am down to the final three. Any input on the industry rep of these programs/caliber of the training they provide? I like them all a lot, but I’m kind of confused on where they stand in regards to each other. Would love to speak to parents/students from these programs.
I don’t know about LIU, but Millikin definitely has a stronger program than IWU. IWU has had casting issues lately, or at least non-major non-minors have been getting cast in mainstages. To me, that’s a red flag that they’ve done that. The facilities are definitely better at Millikin (the fly in KFAC is huge!) and they have a good relationship with summer stock companies. A lot of kids do Sullivan’s Little Theater on the Square in the summers. Decatur has a municipal show choir in the summers as well. If you want a very traditional, structured program, IWU is just fine. If you want to take extra dance classes, there’s options in the town at IWU. If you want innovation and freedom to make your own path, Millikin is your place. If you’re at all interested in playwriting, you’ve got a chance of your work being performed at MU.
