Jack Kent Cooke 2017-2018 Undergrad Transfer

Oh! I would like to add that Brown became an interest to me after reading an article/post of another Jack Kent Cooke Transfer scholar! It was inspiring and came at a time when I was feeling a bit of self-doubt. I don’t know if anyone else here has experienced the awkward gap as a non-traditional student trying to seek higher education. The emotions are always high and, from my experience, not everyone in your life understands the transition. It’s been an interesting time and I will 100% start another thread if anyone is looking for support of others in this position! Anyway, the post was inspiring and prompted me to visit Brown. I have never fell in love with a school before. Beyond their academics, Brown seems to have a motivation and drive for the students. The students were the most diverse, creative, and free that I have met. It was wonderful to be on a campus that seemed so united. Brown is most definitely my reach school and getting a rejection letter will/would hurt but I have to apply because I would regret never doing so!

Another post that really helped me through the process (and the fear of applying to schools I would not be able to afford) is also linked. If either of these two scholars are on the board, I would love to say hello!

Hey @iamhenrietta ! This is Isla Martinez from the Transfer Ways blog post. I’m so happy my post was helpful for you. I know how stressful this entire process can be and I’m wishing you all the very best!

@chellesbells isn’t the term “non-trad” so derogatory? we’re fortunate to have so many learners over 35 in the cooke community. assuming you’re over 35. congratulations on your achievements. where do you want to study abroad? can i recommend canada? :frowning: does canada count? :frowning:

@iamhenrietta i’m sure you have a genius cat. like a MENSA cat. brown’s john hay library is really an impressive place, i think. very stately. marilynne robinson went to brown.

Hello, everyone, did anyone receive an email requested additional financial information on Feb.09?

Nope

I didn’t hear anything about additional financial information. From what I’ve gathered on every forum, not everyone will be asked to provide more financial information. Fingers crossed still!!

@optimisticky Yes but worse is when I do a college visit and the ambassadors ignore me because they think I am a parent and not the student. Wish me luck on the college visit tomorrow to one of the collages I am accepted to. I hope they treat me like a student this time. Indeed I am over 35. I wouldn’t mind Canada but I do want to go overseas, Ireland, France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand just to name a few “I would totally go there if I could!” list of locations for study abroad.

@panda100 or @chellesbells what did the email in Feb. entail if you don’t mind sharing.

@Aprilw763 the following is a copy and paste of the email:

Dear Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Applicant,

We have reviewed your Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship application and would like to request further information at this time. In this next phase of selection, we ask you to complete an online Financial Form which will include:

Financial Information – Income and benefits, assets, self-employment information, and financial circumstances (e.g., business losses, extraordinary family medical expenses, expenses for disabled children).
Your 2015 Federal Tax Return – Complete forms, including W-2 form(s), schedules, and attachments
We have included in this form the 2015 Federal Tax Return file you uploaded with the original application. If you would like to upload an updated version, you can remove the file that appears and upload a new copy of your tax return, schedules and attachments.
This information must be submitted using our online form. We will not accept information by email, fax, or mail. It should take you about 45 minutes to complete the form and upload the required documents. If you are under the age of 30 (by the application deadline), your parent(s)/guardian(s) are also required to complete an online Parent/Guardian Financial Form. They will receive an email, similar to this one, with instructions on what documents are needed and how to log in.

The deadline is Thursday, February 23, 2017 12:00pm, Eastern Time. If you do not submit your Financial Form by this deadline, we will not be able to consider your application. Click here to sign in. The Financial Form will appear on your application dashboard.

Thanks that’s awesome…I’m guessing every semi finalist that didn’t receive this is out right? @chellesbells

I don’t know to be honest. What I do know is that last year the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation told semi-finalist that it didn’t mean they were out of the running. It is worth it to go to your dashboard and see if there is a new form there. https://application.jkcf.org/login/ Just in case the email got misdirected. The deadline to complete is today though so do it right away.

I just found this forum and I’m glad I did. I was picked as a semi finalist and now it’s almost March and I’m freaking out, but I’m glad I’m not alone in the process.

@chellesbells thanks for the tip, my portal was empty. I had emailed JKC because my grades went up but they said they didn’t need any updated information T_T

@liss23 you’re not alone! I made this mistake of reading through last years forum (all 88 pages haha!) and now my nerves are on fire! this years forum seems to be a little more conservative. sending positive vibes to everyone!

I haven’t received any emails since the semifinalist email. However, my professor who wrote my letter of rec. received a lunch bag with the JCKF logo on it from the foundation, anyone else’s professor receive something like that?

I haven’t received any emails besides the first semifinalist one. Does that mean, that those who didn’t get the email about the extra financial info is out of the running??? I am stressing about it.

I dunno. Do they do a second round of semi-finalists? Or do we just wait until April when they give decisions out.

@hustlemuscle, I do not have the answer for that. What I do know is that the semi-finalists last year asked the same question to the foundation and they were told that the students who didn’t get the email were still under consideration.

@philbegas No they will not be doing a second round of picking semi-finalists. None of us will known anything for sure until they start notifying recipients hopefully in April.

Mostly I just try to not think about it. It doesn’t help that I get asked if I have heard anything a lot when I am on campus.

@chellesbells Did you receive any new emails about submitting more documents or information?

@Panda100 Not as yet. I’ve been watching closely and there has not been any email or added form in my dashboard.
