Jack Kent Cooke 2018-2019 Undergradate Transfer Scholarship

There’s always a boost of motivation when the JKC foundation posts a 2nd video with one of your college’s scholars <3
The final week… Get those essays reviewed and buckle up :))

Good luck to everyone! I am all ready to submit but I can’t seem to stop editing. I am forcing myself to submit tomorrow just so I can focus on my accounting homework this weekend. :))

I’m submitting my application today. Good luck to y’all.

Ugghh, the anxiety starts to kick in when your mouse is hovering over the “Confirm” button!

I will edit my application a little bit more. I will submit it on Monday.

…and done! Good luck folks! I hope we all become finalists.

Of course I rushed to submit my application before I started work today and just now re went through my entire application and realized a grammatical error on the why I chose my major section -_-

@GoldenState1 , happens to us all! I’m pretty sure if I go back to my application I’ll find a small mistake or two. What’s important is that you’re confident you’re message and story were properly conveyed.

Super excited to be on this trip with you guys!

Annnnd, I’ve just boarded the train too!

Gotta love the heart rate increase when they ask

" Are you sure you want to submit?"

Your mind is suddenly flooded with self-doubt… Should I go over it again? Switch that one word or sentence?

Then it goes blank. A peaceful feeling takes you as your hand moves the mouse and clicks,

Yes.

I’ve been obsessively checking this thread everyday, and I figured it’s time to finally post. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing their application essays? If so, shoot an email to nancyisking@gmail.com! I crawled through the dark recesses of the internet to try to find more essay examples for the JKCF prompts, but found nothing, and it was driving me up a wall as I was applying. I can email mine, as well, if we want to do an exchange!

I know that we just submitted it today, but I’ve already resigned myself to not getting the scholarship as I know how selective it is. I’m still very happy I applied.

@AllDogsAreGood Welcome aboard! :slight_smile:

I can tell that, according to the representative we had on campus the other day, there aren’t as many applicants this year (at least those who’ve started the application), as last year. But, as we all know, they aren’t selecting as many scholars this time around.
I’m happy with my essays but I’m leaving them to the side for now. I know myself, if I look too much into them, I’ll find flaws :))

@GoldenState1 I wouldn’t worry too much about the small grammatic error on your application. Your story is incredibly inspiring, even from the small bit you shared with us. Though I completely understand. I was a rack of nerves submitting mine. I couldn’t even look through it again after I submitted it. Lol.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Do you guys know if they announce any information before they announce semi-finalist? It’s going to be a LONG winter

@GoldenState1 , the representative that visited our campus said that semifinalists will be notified in March, with finalists being notified the following month. I found this timeline a little strange.

Previous years it seems like people found out whether they were semifinalists in December… Maybe they’re changing it around a bit this cycle.

Hi guys, I am a new user. I submitted my application at the last minute. I am proud that I finished it. Can anyone tell me if I have a chance to win?
I have 3.83 GPA. I have one honors class, two Math research class, members of more than 5 clubs, former secretary of Student Government, present President of Phi Theta Kappa and have participated in many competition on campus.

In my essays, I talked about coming from a poor village, I didn’t use to care about any issues, but now after joining Student Government, it has changed. I would love to see your application. Let me know if you want my application to see.

@AGoodFloridian that is strange. I did watch their webinar and it said they werent going to start reviewing applications until January, which is kind of weird since the deadline was in October… It could be one of those underpromise over deliver things so that they dont have hundreds of students contacting them constantly.

I believe they will notify the semifinalsts in December, so the applicants have an advantage of getting acceptance from the competitive universities they are applying to. However, if they were to announce the semifinalsts in March, when most CommonApp deadlines are in Jan & Feb, it won’t make a difference.

@chintanp It’s tough to give “chance me’s” on a scholarship like this. You have the grades and college participation so it will really fall down to how you conveyed your story.

@AGoodFloridian Thanks. Does anyone know any other scholarship worth applying to?

@chintanp I’m sure you know this as the president of your college’s chapter, but for those who don’t, Phi Theta Kappa has some scholarship opportunities that have already opened (with deadlines mostly in December.) If you’re active in it, I’d certainly encourage you to apply!
