@yadav2 I’m new to this so I have a question? How do you get accepted to colleges with full ride and 100% financial need covered? Do you have to ask for it, apply for financial aid or if you are just really good they offer it when they accept you? And anyone can answer this as well, thanks
hey @room4more. I applied to several private universities (they tend to have more money to give to students) and many of them meet full need. This was a huge factor in my university picks and top choices. Typically, for those that give out institutional aid and meet full need, you have to file the CSS application. Need based scholarships will go off of your financial information and merit scholarships can be given strictly based on your academic accomplishments. You can find several lists online that show Universities that meet full need too.
@“TexasRosé_” thanks so much!
@room4more It depends on school that you are applying too. Some colleges have so called “automatic merit scholarship”. That means you get accepted with some kind of merit scholarship most of the times on the basis of your grades and all. Sometimes college do offer departmental scholarships. For example in my case, in Missouri State University, I got out of state fee wavier (I am international student) because my community college have agreement with MSU for this wavier and I got departmental scholarship of more than $8k from debate department at MSU because I went to National Debate Tournament and won against MSU. Their debate coach talked to my debate coach and informed me about the scholarship lol. Then of course I got PTK, Community College Academic Scholarships and all. So, pretty much they all add up to cover my tuition fees, transportation and books. I also got my back home government scholarship that is going to cover my room and board.
Now talking about Bocconi University. That university is in Italy they just offer scholarship once you get accepted on the basis of your profile.
Please note that universities offer more scholarships for freshman than for transfer students. So, the best that you can do is to add up different scholarships from department or by admissions department or by honors college and get yourself covered.
I don’t want to show off but yes I am very good at searching scholarship and applying. I haven’t paid anything in my community college whereas I get refunds of around $1000-$2500 every semester from my college for having more scholarships in my account.
Let me know if you have any questions.
@room4more TexasRose summed it up really well! If you Google “Need Blind Admissions”, go to the Wikipedia link and you’ll see a list of colleges that meet full financial need and that are need blind (along with others that aren’t). The Foundation itself encourages applicants to apply to such schools since their financial aid policies are super generous, even for transfer students.
A friend of mine of low income transferred into a selective school last year and he had all of his costs paid for, essentially a full ride. He said it costed him less to go to the selective school than to go to his community college.
@room4more True, TexasRose and AGoodFloridian are right. However, I am international student so I most the time don’t get qualify for financial aid. But if you are a US citizen or a legal resident. Using that list and applying to those colleges will be a great plan.
Oh my gooooooosh!!! My representative just called me and let me know I won! I’m still shaking.
So announcements are really going out people!!! Emails went out today to schools. Hang in there pals!
@poppypup congratulations! We officially got our first scholar of the group!!
@yadav2 where are you from? I am an international students too (from Nigeria) and searching for scholarships is not my best talent but I try my best. Were most of the scholarships you used in community college essay based scholarship or did they include merit.
@poppypup can you do us a favour if you can go to your portal and see of there is any change on the same? Congratulations again
@poppypup OMG Congratulations! I recall you received the portal update. Things are looking good so far @AGoodFloridian.
@yadav2 Thank you!!! Wow today’s notifications from this thread were giving me so much anxiety haha. Good luck to all of you still waiting! I know it hurts but we can do it team! :bz
No portal change as of yet. I think they want schools to have the opportunity to let students know first.
@Gratitudeworks I am from India. Most of the scholarships I used in community college are essay based and of course min. gpa requirement of 3.0
Right now, I have Honors Presidential Scholarship that covers tuition and fees, debate scholarship that is around $2500 and then foundation scholarship and Resident Assistant Scholarship.
@poppypup Congratulations!!! That’s really exciting! Wishing you the best on your journey!
Hello everyone! I’ve been watching this thread for a while now, but didn’t say anything because I knew my anxiety would have gone through the roof if I had a place to speak about this stuff lol. I have enjoyed listening to your stories and everything you’ve gone through. I hope many of you are awarded the scholarship!
With that said, I would like to give you information about the scholarship. Today I was selected as a winner for the scholarship at my school district’s board meeting. I and two others were selected for the scholarship. We also received a certificate from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and it says I am 1 of 47 scholars this year. I think our school district was told the information in advance for the purpose of presenting us in the board meeting. I’m not sure if everyone else is finalized. Hopefully I see many of you win!
@poppypub I am sorry to bother but do you know when your rep got the notification like today or yesterday? Because if it is today then of course they didn’t sent the notifications to other colleges at the same time. As the other 2 students’ rep got notification yesterday.
@EmbodieRequiem Congratulations!! Now I clearly know that I am not selected because they must have informed every school if they know the total number of scholarship winner i.e, 47. And I know my reo. didn’t got the notification for sure.
I wonder if they are notifying people by state and district? this does not make any sense well maybe the press decision for everybody will be released at the end of April only 46 scholarships wow!
@EmbodiedRequiem Congratulations!!! All the best!
@yadav2 Thanks for the reply! Congratulations on your current scholarships!
