Jack Kent Cooke 2018-2019 Undergradate Transfer Scholarship

@poppypup @AGoodFloridian can you guys inbox me how the your dashboards were changed? I’m nervous wreckingly now. Thank you guys!

@AGoodFloridian @poppypup any chance you can post a link to a picture of what it looks like. I’m about to make some plans as I guess I’m semifinalist now lol

Congrats to the people who got the changes on their dashboards! I’m pretty sure that if you got the change, you’re a finalist! I highly doubt they would make such a big mistake. Again, congratulations!! As for the rest of us, lets just hope they’re not done selecting the finalists lol

Preach!!

@Bitzyspider , @maiem1410

Post #150 is spot on with what I’m seeing. I wouldn’t recommend looking over last year’s threads (to spare yourself the anxiety…), but people have found out their decisions throughout the month of April (and even May). It wasn’t like the day we received the semifinalist email, where it was all at once. These were scattered throughout weeks, and usually the school’s JKC representative finds out first.

@AGoodFloridian thanks for the words of encouragement. I was going through the five stages of grief and have made it to acceptance

Just got off the phone asking if finalist decisions were made and if the profile updates were intentional. The response I got was “I don’t have information on that at this time”.
Personally i think glitch from JKCF is unlikely and a congratulations is in order to all the incredible people who got the update and hopefully more of us will still be chosen.

@AGoodFloridian I just want to thank you btw.
As a lurker here for the past year or so you’ve been very helpful, encouraging, and responsive and I just want you to know that I appreciate it. Cheers mate.

Hey all,

Wrote an email and got this in response,

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.

There was a system issue that inadvertently marked some or all of our finalists as scholars (winners). This has been corrected.

You are still under consideration but final decisions have not been made yet.

Final decisions will be made this spring. Once we have a firm date, we will let you know."

Seems pretty, final, unfortunately. Don’t want to freak anyone out, though. Congrats to the people who were scholars!

Guys, I was marked as a scholar yesterday, but I checked the website today, and they took out the update. My portal is back to normal.

@AllDogsAreGood , you’re awesome, thank you for sharing that e-mail. My portal was also updated and looks the same as it did before all this went down.

I want to really focus on that comment,

I’m really believing that not all of the scholars were notified, and that we were definitely not supposed to see that lol. Never underestimate the anxiety of a CC’er :)) , we find everything .

@Bitzyspider Heeey, thanks for the kind words pal! <3 It’s been a long journey for me (proof is in my threads </3), a lot of rejections and disappointments in this journey. A lot of learning and humility. I’m glad this year has been taking a turn for the better, I can’t put it into words yet how grateful I am for everything that’s been happening.

I emailed the foundation and also got the same response today, and my portal is also back to normal. But whew, I’m glad I didn’t tell anyone at school yet!!

Hopefully the next month will bring good news for all of us! This is all so nerve-wracking haha, and I can’t believe the foundation had such a big glitch @-)

@AllDogsAreGood “There was a system issue that inadvertently marked some or all of our finalists as scholars (winners).” So I read this as saying that the system accidentally marked some of the SEMI-finalists as scholars/winners, as the email then says: “You are still under consideration but final decisions have not been made yet.” So they’re saying that they haven’t made final decisions yet, meaning how would they have finalists in the system in the first place? Or am I reading this wrong because I’m still grasping at hope? lol

Does anyone know if its true that the foundation tells our colleges first??

My way of seeing this response is: there is an additional elimination process that they don’t mention. Applicants then Semi-finalist, Finalist, and Scholars. On the general info of the scholarship, it mentions that “selected” finalist will become scholars, which makes me believe that there will be finalist who won’t receive a scholarship. If you didn’t receive the update probably you are (a) one of the finalists that didn’t get the update or (b) still a semi-finalist. Of course, this is pure speculation. I just don’t understand why they would omit the word semifinalist in their statement.

@norcalbusiness That has been the general trend in previous years, yes. The Foundation tells your college’s representative, who then usually prepares some sort of surprise to notify you when you least expect it. ( see: https://youtu.be/DMa5WAs4rnI )
It’s a mixed bag, some just find out through e-mail (in the case that their college doesn’t notify them).

@elhanhzos I think that makes sense. The whole finalist/scholar terminology can get confusing.

@exnihilonihilfit It’s what I was saying before, I believe they’re still choosing their finalists/scholars etc. Maybe they had a handful of finalists chosen, and wanted to test their portal updating system before truly launching it next month. I think it was just part of occasional systems testing. The issue was probably that we saw it during the window that they were testing :)) I don’t know, if this is the medium to speculate, then speculate we shall huh?

@norcalbusiness It seems that way in previous years. They seem to prefer to tell your college first of your status as a cooke scholar so that you can be surprised in some way by the college faculty and staff. However, some scholars received the news themselves due to the foundation having difficulty getting ahold of the applicant’s college officials. This is based on trends of previous years.

@“TexasRosé_” My college is huge is I’m pretty sure it would be no problem getting ahold of the rep. I’m hoping we find out by the first week or two of April. This application waiting period gives me anxiety!! I really wish i would have checked the application portal while the glitch was going on!

Hello! So my belief towards the mystery behind the huge glitch was that some fortunate semi-finalists were given finalist status, while others are still under consideration. I just can’t believe they would take it back. Did everyone who got the update on their account also have to give additional financial info? If so, that would make sense as to why they are finalists. Congratulations!!! I hope we all win
