@unique99 Have previous rounds of finalists been known to provide additional financial info?
@norcalbusiness Good question! I think some but not all were asked to provide additional financial info.
@norcalbusiness I was asked for additional financial information, but did get the glitch.
@norcalbusiness did not get the glitch. sorry
So I spoke with my college representative to clear up the whole terminology question. As @elhanhzos mentioned, there is a “finalist bracket” as well. So it’s important to note that finalist =/= scholar.
The email just said that some of the people who got moved on to the finalist bracket had their portals “inadvertently” changed, so I’m starting to have doubts on the whole thing. In any case, I’m gonna put some more focus on my applications, they’re all due… this month…
Before we know it, we’ll be in April. Something tells me we’ll find out sooner than in previous years.
Wait what applications are due next month @AGoodFloridian?
@LeonardoRuales Many universities have their application deadlines on March 15th and April 1st.
Got you
I believe that the foundation will start asking for transcripts and university acceptance once they finish selecting finalists. I’m so excited and nervous at the same time. I can’t believe we made it this far.
I’m not sure if they did that last year, but I know it did happen in some of the previous cycles. If we go by those previous cycles, if you get a request for grades, it’s definitely a great sign!
@AGoodFloridian So they would be requesting Fall 2017 and Winer 2018 grades?
@norcalbusiness I’d imagine they’d just request your Fall 2017 grades. I’m not too familiar with the “winter” term, but if it’s similar to Spring semester like we have in Florida, then it’d be too early to get the final grades in.
I don’t really think they’ll be doing that this year, but we’ll see!
Hey guys,
Shouldn’t the title of the discussion be - Jack Kent Cooke 2017-2018 Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship-? instead of 2018 - 2019 ?
Just trying to help you guys relax lol.
@writerk123 2018-2019 is correct since the selected scholars will be of the 2018-2019 academic year cohort.
@writerk123 - No, it shouldn’t be.
Hello! I applied for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship in November and was notified in December that I was a semi-finalist. I am a non-traditional African-American female seeking a degree in History and hopefully will move on to my masters. I attend a community college in Houston Texas and I have applied to University of Wisconsin-Madison (I grew up not far from there) University of Texas Austin (Awesome history program) and College of William and Mary (hello, HISTORY!). I currently have an internship with the African-American Library at the Gregory School here in Houston, and I have also published 2 articles on the George Washington Digital Encyclopedia on the Revolutionary War (which is my concentration). I started an organization in 2016 to assist minority girls reach their potential and seek a college education. I am in the Honors College and was recommended by my history professors. I also volunteer with the immigrant community (free ESL classes) and with other historical projects currently going on in the Houston area. I just joined Phi Theta Kappa and I will be studying abroad in Italy in May/June. Got knocked down real head in an abusive marriage but pulled myself back up and now am ready to realize my dream. You are not too old, and it is not too late, that’s my motto now! It really is an honor just to make it to the semi-finalist list! I hope everyone the best of luck and look forward to reading your posts!
hello again - i just finished reading some posts, trying to catch up on the threads. I did receive an email asking for financial information, but I don’t know if I got the system glitch because i never checked it to begin with, never even thought about doing that :(. I just found this forum and trying to respond with my experience if it helps!
@room4more Welcome aboard, happy to be here with you! Congratulations on how much you’ve achieved, you really took it the extra mile in your extracurricular activities.
I think most of us are on that “silently uneasy” phase where we know the notifications are only a few weeks away, and the thought of it comes to us a little more frequently now. If the previous threads are any indications, most of us will find out at different times depending on when our colleges intend to notify us. At some point later in April, an email from the Foundation will be sent to clear all doubts.
Honestly I think most applicants would rather know immediately than have some elaborate surprise, as sweet as that is :)) For admission purposes, the sooner you can notify colleges, the better really.
@room4more Are you in touch with the other semifinalists from your community college?
There were 4 others from my campus, but I am not in touch with them. I guess I should find out!!
