Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship 2017-2018

Does anyone have the Scholars info heading on the Account page?

@Whynotme11 Nope! :smiley:

@GeoffWii2 Did your child get it?
Has anyone else gotten notification of getting the scholarship?
When will I get notification of whether I’m going to get it or not?

@aw2021 I think notifications (phone calls) will go out for finalists next week, and non-finalists will get notified later (up to 2 weeks later from reading previous threads).

Edit: I mean notifications for non-Young Scholar finalists

@ticktacktoe Are you a young scholar? Have they been notified already or something?
Thanks, btw!

@aw2021 Nope, not a Young Scholar. just theorizing based on what @GeoffWii2 posted on this thread.

See post #78

I want to wish everybody good luck. If my math is correct it’s easier to get into Stanford (4.65%) vs JKCF (.78%). So congrats to everyone who made it this far

Easier percentage-wise but they look for different things. Not every Scholar gets into a top school, and not every top (needy) student can get JKCF. JKCF very much picks people, not profiles (or so is my personal impression).

@GeoffWii2 Wouldn’t it be 70/5100 = 1.37%?

@GeoffWii2 You got your numbers from their website which says that up to 40 are selected. Somewhere else, it says that it is actually 70.

Either way it a very low percentage and everyone who still in it should be proud to be there

@teensuccess7865 I’m still able to see the scholar link. Nothing really stands out about it except for one link labeled “scholar support”, where it asks me “Please answer the following questions so that we can get an idea of how you would like to work with your Cooke Educational Adviser.”

@GeoffWii2
Do you know how the notifications went out to young scholars? Was it a phone call or email or through some young scholar portal or something? I am just curious because I know a young scholar and asked them if they were notified and it doesn’t sound like they were . If they weren’t notified does that mean they didn’t get it ? They said they were told they would hear before
May 1st. Thank you .

@lamestprincess if we don’t see that on our portal, do you think we are out of luck? Not knowing is difficult with a college decision riding on whether or not we get this! If I don’t have a chance, I would rather know sooner than later!

@LovingYou I have no idea. This is my first time with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation so I can’t really give any input sorry

@lamestprincess If you have been assigned an educational adviser already, then I think you have received the college scholarship! Congrats

I guess the only reason I am checking back is to see if anyone else got confirmation. It seems like the if one person had a change in their dashboard then if we were winners we would have as well. You know the thing that is really frustrating is the reasoning about not informing the losers. I was the semifinalist for 4 major awards and only one informed me when I wasn’t chosen. They announce the winners on some ambiguous day and leave the applicants holding out hope when there is none. How hard would it be to say Sorry you did not win. So there is still this teeny tiny glimmer of hope left in me but the reasonable, empirical part of me knows this is ridiculous.

I think the thing that hurt my chances is that I am not going to an ivy league level school, nor did I even apply to one. JKCF favors higher education at an ivy league level. I’m going to be okay though. I applied for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship… they had over 40,000 applicants, and I was 1 out of 116 chosen. I had a 0.03% chance of being chosen, but I was. They saw potential in me, and now I even see potential in myself thanks to them.

@levi99 I know many Young Scholars who aren’t going to ivies, but were chosen. That’s not a requirement at all. Congrats on the Horatio scholarship!
