Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship 2017-2018

@Mitrak do you mind posting a screenshot? also dude i remember you from the robertson scholarship thing, wish you the best of luck my man

@Mitrak @lamestprincess Also just to clarify something, did you guys get a request for additional information at any point after the semi finalist notification? I’m happy for you guys and I hope it does mean good news

SO If I’m remembering correctly this happened a couple years ago too (my year). Some kids logged in and were able to see something that indicated they were a scholar. I don’t think mine said anything special/or I didn’t log in, can’t remember which [I did get the scholarship]. But anyway the foundation realized and took it down.

Also, requests for more information are for CLARIFICATIONS. It’s not a good sign and it’s not a bad sign. It’s a request for info so they can make a final decision.

Well I don’t have the scholar identification anywhere. I know I shouldn’t and I know nothing is final yet but I feel so defeated. I was a semifinalist and finalist in three large scholarship opportunities. JKCF is the fourth and I was really holding out hope. I just don’t understand what more I could have done. It doesn’t help to just know I did my best. I have spent four years in high school putting all things aside to make A’s have spectacular EC’s thousands of hours of community service all with the hope that I would end up with help paying for college. It is really discouraging to think that wont happen. How can I have gotten this close this many times and still miss the mark. What a way to end my senior year. I spent hours on this application, I am not going to lie this really makes me sad.

@mitrak I agree with you I think this is telling sign for those of us that don’t have that tab.

Probably no one listening but I am really sad, I was really hoping this one worked out for me. Congrats to anyone that wins.

@Whynotme11 It’s going to be okay. Still need to hold out hope.

@Whynotme11 Chin up. You’ll find your path as long as you keep working and trying hard.

@levi99 Thanks but it seems like this is another no for me. The biggest part is that without this scholarship the school I really wanted to go to will be out of the question. I know I will be okay, it is just that I made it into a wonderful program at my dream school and the money is just not there. I think part of my disappointment is that when all of the letters and notification came in that placed me in the running I allowed myself to get my hopes up and I should not have done that. The odds are just so against even the best student, It’s like trying your best to get a shot at the lottery.

@Whynotme11 Ya, I know how you feel. I got semi/finalist status empty-handed so it’s pretty discouraging. But don’t give up! There are a lot of scholarships that you can still apply for first year and up in college. As for your dream school, I believe you can do well no matter which school as long as you keep working hard and keep up a positive attitude!

Thanks, @ticktacktoe I have made it this far and through so much that not winning a scholarship is not going to stop me, it is just you go so long telling yourself that you will not get your hopes up but secretly I think we all do and it sorta feels like having the wind knocked out of you. I have read threads from past years and it sounds like the scholar designation on the account page is the tell tale sign so my hope is shot. I feel terrible but I’ll get over it.

@Whynotme11 Haha yeah, I read last years thread too, even though its completely illogical, I still have a bit of hope left even now. It’s hard I know. In any event, this agony will soon be over

@ticktacktoe I had requests for updated financial information and my updated grades. Nothing about my college acceptances or financial aid info. However, I don’t think that this means anything and everyone else still has a good chance.

I think y’all missed the part where I said I didn’t have the scholar notation (or didn’t check? Honestly not sure) and still won the scholarship.

So maybe it was there and I just didn’t log-in, can’t remember, but idk I wouldn’t say it’s over yet.

But yes, always a good idea to write your applications with a lot of hope, and then the instant you submit, pretend in your mind that you just got rejected and act like it 'til you find out officially.

I was shocked when I found out about JKCF. I called them back because I thought they made a mistake.

@CourtneyThurston Did you hear back from them mid-April when you won?

Actually they called late March. Two years ago so obviously the process has changed.

@lamestprincess @Mitrak So are y’all still able to see this section or not anymore?

good luck to all

I understand Young Scholars were notified today. External applicants will be notified shortly

@GeoffWii2 Thanks for the info!
