Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2015-2016

Hey guys, I just gave them a call. The application rep mentioned that if your application wasn’t “missing” anything, then you weren’t going to be asked to provide any additional information. If you haven’t received and e-mail asking for additional documents, it doesn’t mean that you haven’t been selected as a finalist. Keep your heads up. We still got 2-3 weeks of waiting, try to focus on other things =)

Thank you @Jouuuu . So guys stop stressing and lets keep our fingers crossed. Im going to start exercising again to keep out the stress and tension.

No worries @graceunworthy. We all need to settle down and relax! Not all of us will win, but some of us will. Let’s just be happy we have at least something to stress about :).

Yes, even if most of your tuition is paid by other aid or scholarships, if you become a JKC Scholar, you will still qualify for additional needed funds, support and resources. Last year my son received the JKC College Scholarship and even though he had managed to accumulate essentially a full ride to the University of South Carolina Honors College, JKC covered additional expenses for transportation, fees, books, computer and of course room and board. It is a tremendous blessing to him and us for him to be debt free and not having to work during the school year to cover expenses.

Not sure what you guys are talking about. I just called and they verified I’m out of the running. If you didn’t get an email on Friday I suggest you call and check the status of your applications. Good luck everyone

@nickybee Could you give us a little more detail on your conversation? I wonder why we got different answers…

I called and said that I was aware some students received an email Friday for the next phase and asked them to look up my name because I didn’t receive the email and I wanted to check the status of the application. She looked up my name and verified that I’m no longer under consideration.

I’m sorry to hear that @nickybee, I appreciate you sharing. I find it very surprising that you were told that via the phone. I want to stress to everyone that this isn’t the case for all of us. When I spoke to the rep, she mentioned that the status for my application was still “under review.” Nothing is set in stone, and most of us don’t have a decision. Keep your head up. I hope that the rep was wrong in your case, @nickybee.

I doubt the representative was wrong, and that’s okay. I’m glad I was considered as a semi finalist and either way I’m moving on to a 4 year university, so no loss here! It would have been awesome to win, but it was an honor to even be considered. Some people (like me) just want to know what the result is. Others would prefer to wait and I get that. But I think if anyone wants to know their status, they should call in and inquire about it. Not sure why you think it’s surprising they told me, I just asked the question and they provided me the information!

I admire your attitude. Kind of like yourself, I also prefer to hear the news and not wait (I would argue most of us are the same). I did find it surprising because I would imagine the foundation would prefer to give out results via a formal e-mail/letter rather than giving students the news via the phone. Regardless, I’m hoping your case was an error. And if it wasn’t, then you have nothing to lose anyways. Hopefully you keep checking the forum! Good luck :slight_smile:

@nickybee Can I ask you if you were anywhere near the median income of recipients, about $7000 a year? Or if you make over 20-25k including parents income? I’m wondering if the semi-finalists are being considered based on their income.

I also just called. I am also out. He said no email = out of the running. He said emails will be going out soon with that answer, but he didn’t know when. If anyone else would like to call and confirm this the number is 800-941-3300 they just ask for your first and last name and then tell you.
I’m going to go cry into my pillow now. Goodbye dreams of attending NYU.

I’m sorry to hear @muffinpoptarte, this is so weird. I really hope this rep is just wrong.

Did anyone else call?

I also called and the rep said I’am not under consideration anymore. This is just so weird like you said @Jouuuu Hope the rep was wrong

@mifit wow… sorry to hear man…

I just don’t understand why I was told that “my application is still under review” when I didn’t get an e-mail. I really don’t want to call again too. This is getting harder to not worry about and let it consume me. Ugh. >:P

@Jouuuu I dont know if they are just saying that to us since they probably have received many calls and are tired of the many calls they have received. It just seems weird how they would tell you through the phone just like that. I thought it was confidential information. Who knows seems weird

@nickybee @mifit @jouuuu who did you speak to on the phone? I spoke with a gentlemen with a slight accent.
I just emailed the adviser at my college for this scholarship and explained the whole situation. He was the one who called over a month ago and was told semifinalists would basically be given the opportunity to ask and answer questions. It hurts a lot to one moment be a semifinalist, not be asked anything, and the next moment be out. I mean, what was even the point then?
The guy just said “Yeah you’re out,” as if it were a baseball game. It was just so cold. I also sent an email to the foundation politely expressing my feelings on this matter and asking for clarification. If I or my adviser hear anything back which might be helpful I will share it. I am such a little gloom cloud right now.

@muffinpoptarte
I totally understand you it was the same guy who answer my phone call and said it the same way he told you, “Yeah you’re out” I figure he meant I am out of consideration but I just don’t get how can someone like you know via telephone all this seems weird

@muffinpoptarte Yes, if you know anything please let us know thank you

I’m sorry to hear any of you is out of the running, I also think it’s strange that they would tell anyone over the phone before all of the final decisions were made.
@muffinpoptarte you can still get to NYU. Keep looking, this isn’t you’re only chance. There are so many scholarships out there that get overlooked every year and the money just sits there.
