Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2015-2016

this is what @ForestryGuy posted on Friday when they were asking about additional information @sammyclaire23

Dear Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Applicant,

We have reviewed your Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship application and would like to request further information at this time.

In this next phase of selection, we ask you to complete an online Financial Form which will include:

Financial Information – Income and benefits, assets, self-employment information, and financial circumstances (e.g., business losses, extraordinary family medical expenses, expenses for disabled children).
Your 2014 Federal Tax Return – Complete forms, including W-2 form(s), schedules, and attachments
We have included in this form the 2014 Federal Tax Return file you uploaded with the original application. If you would like to upload an updated version, you can remove the file that appears and upload a new copy of your tax return, schedules and attachments.

If you are under the age of 30 (by the application deadline), your parent(s)/guardian(s) are also required to complete an online Parent/Guardian Financial Form. They will receive an email, similar to this one, with instructions on what documents are needed and how to log in.

This information must be sent using our online form. We will not accept information by email, fax, or mail. It should take you about 45 minutes to complete the form and upload the required documents.

The deadline is Tuesday, March 29, 2016 12:00pm, Eastern time. If you do not submit your Financial Form by this deadline will not be able to consider your application.

Click here to sign in. The Semifinalist Financial Form will appear on your dashboard.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us. Customer service staff are available 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. eastern time, Monday - Friday, except holidays.

I was also one that received an email requesting additional information. On Friday I called and left a message for clarification on the form that needed to be filled out. A woman called me back today apologizing for not getting back to me sooner. (As you can imagine they are swamped with phone calls, so except a delay) The woman indicated the email was sent out for verification purposes and to make sure nothing has changed. I was not missing any information, nor was my financial information out of the ordinary other then I have a dependent in college, which is what I believe they are trying to verify. From my understanding this does not mean individuals that received an email made it through a “second phase” just that they are trying to gather all the information to make their decisions. This process is pretty stressful for us all and I wish everyone the best. Remember we are all winners!

@CherryBlossom22 Thanks for giving us more detail but some of us called and the rep mention we were out but it’s hard to believe a rep has the authority to say that

@mifit Has anyone tried to call back and speak to a different person? I asked what my status was and the woman told me she could see my application but nothing else. I have a hard time believing they would give that information out even if it was to allow people the benefit to make other arrangements.

@CherryBlossom22 Yes if you look back from the comments from yesterday you can see how several called and received the same answer I believe someone else and I had male who spoke to us and another student spoke to a female but to be honest all of us that did called are confuse because we thought that a rep. was not allow to give any results out until final decisions.

@mifit I think this whole process is confusing and creating unnecessary stress. I’m going to send them what they are requesting and just hope for the best. Good luck in your future endeavors!

Thanks, for that clarification @CherryBlossom22.

@CherryBlossom22 – Just to clarify, the rep that you spoke to said that your email from Friday did not mean you made it to a “round two” of some sort?

In the email all the semifinalists received on March 8, it forewarns everyone that “In the coming weeks, we may be in touch for additional information from you and your parents. Please pay closer attention to any additional emails you receive from the Cooke Foundation.”

Guys, don’t read too much into the financial info or request for additional background info. It’s common, and is not indicative of a win or a loss, only that they want to confirm/fill in blanks. Some students are asked for additional tax info, especially if they are non-trad/independent/have any dependents/not fresh out of high school or have only one parent claiming them (taxes/financials are complicated as it is). It’s fine, don’t worry. Some folks are asked to explain gaps in work or school history; again, it’s not an interrogation, sometimes they are simply vaguely curious about something or explore ways to develop a more complete picture of who you are.

I’m going to ask one of the JKCF staff about the validity of calling in to receive results over the phone. That is a little unorthodox and confusing, and if anything, it might offer some clarification.

Thank you @nekozuki that would be helpful.

I just called. I received the March 8th email letting me know I was a semi-finalist, yet I didn’t receive the most recent email asking for updated 2015 financial information. The lady I spoke to said that my application is still under review/consideration.

I hope this eases some stress off of you all.

Good luck everyone,
Tuvee

Yeah - I asked my school’s JKC advisor about all this and she got this email back:

“We have reached out to a few semifinalists for additional financial information, but not all semifinalists. We are in the final selection process and will be making final decisions at the end of the month.”

We all good. lol.

@anythinghere Thanks for the details I wonder about all of us that called and were told we were out. Hopefully @nekozuki lets us know about that

Hi guys. I called today and a man answered the phone. He told me that my application was still under review, and that I’m not out of the running.

Good luck everyone! We are the brightest minds in the community college system and we truly ALL deserve this scholarship!

People who called last week and the got the guy who told them they were out, did you try calling again this week? So if you didn’t receive an email on Friday the 18th, you’re technically out?

People who called last week and were told they were out, trying calling this week and lets see if they cover it up by

@mariamsaleh If you did not get an e-mail it does not mean your automatically out that’s what @nekozuki told us this morning. Most of us called on Monday and were told we were out but in this moment we are all confuse to be honest

@mifit nekozuki said NOT to read into the second email some of us got. They are only sending out the second email to certain students for additional information that is it. Some people on here are stating they did not receive the second email but were told they are still being considered and another called back today after being told they were out and found out they too are still being considered. Take a deep breath. Only a few more weeks and we will all have the results. I know it is hard but we will all get through this.

@CherryBlossom22 thanks for the clarification. I had no clue that people who were told they were out are still consider. I guess it’s so confusing. But like you said only a few more weeks

@sammyclaire23 The rep said the email was sent out for verification purposes and to make sure nothing has changed. Not that I didn’t make it to round two. My comment about “second phase” was my thoughts on the second email stating “In this next phase of selection, we ask you to complete an online Financial Form…” Some are speculating it means only some have gone on but I think they were just referencing the stage from semifinalist to finalist. Hope that clarifies things.
