Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2013-2014

Got my rejection email. Congrats to all the winners!

That’s funny cbs. I’m about to get my first B too. Feels good to finally know, and can focus on other things.

I’m a nervous wreck!!! This morning I heard a voicemail message left April 11 from someone at Cooke!! I came on here and based on other’s experience and that I haven’t received a rejection email I’m thinking I may have won…but no one is in the Cooke office so I had to leave a VM. So nervous, freaked out I missed the call. But mostly I just want to know already, on way or another
Whatever happens, all the best to everyone in their transfer plans!

If you didn’t receive an email then you probably did get it. Please come back and let us know on Monday! We want to congratulate you!

Also, past winners, can you tell us what the process was for awarding the scholarship? Is it sent to your school or given directly to the student? And what is the trip to Virginia like? Where do you stay, etc?

Has any of the recipients, that had been notified by your schools, received any phone call from the foundation yet?

I got my call twenty minutes ago.

@greekgirl2005 Still waiting for my call  did they give you any details as to how the scholarship will be disbursed or the scholars weekend? kind of impatient here ;)

They will send a packet at the end of the month with papers to sign. When you receive your bill for tuition at your next school you send it to them and they pay it. Scholars weekend in Leesburg, Va. is mandatory and is July 31 through August 3. The packet explains everything, but they are happy to answer any questions you may have. Congrats!!!

They published the list of the recipients on their website: <a href=“News and Stories - Jack Kent Cooke Foundation”>http://www.jkcf.org/foundation-awards-85-undergraduate-transfer-scholarships/</a> . I am still waiting for their call.

Congrats to all of the new scholars! Welcome to the family! Please feel free to message me privately if you have any questions. I was new last year so I know you are probably both excited and nervous. So, please, feel free to reach out. I look forward to meeting you all at Scholars Weekend! :)

I did get it! I called back Monday and my heart kind of sank when she asked me about my schools and didn’t say “you’ve been selected” or “congratulations” I thought it was just a follow up call. Then she mentioned the award amount which confused me so I just flat out asked “so it might be a stupid question, but does this mean I won?” And she said yes! Of course a day later they posted the list online and such. I’m so incredibly overwhelmed and looking forward to meeting fellow scholars in Virginia this summer.

Yay!!! And congrats!!! I can’t wait to meet you! Look for me there— L o r i

Congratulations to all the JKC Scholar recipients! Would anyone be interested in creating a facebook group?

I like the idea of a facebook page. Will you create it, or would you like me to do it?

Can you do it? Maybe we an contact someone from the jkc administration to create it since they know who the recipients are.

If I make a facebook page we can let the JKCF know, and they can maybe send an email out with the link to it? I will make the page if you will send the link to JKFC. Let me know.

Has anybody applied for it, and won with a 3.5 GPA? My GPA has severely faltered…And in the news article they said that the average GPA for the 85 recipients this year was a 3.98… so, should I even apply for this upcoming year?
This year I had a 4.0 and I got into Round II, but then I withdrew my application to stay at my CC for another year.

It is low compared to the average but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it to apply. It’s a long application but worth the payoff if you were to get it. Unfortunately you wouldn’t have fall grades to factor into your GPA before you apply for round 1. Are you taking summer courses that could potentially raise your GPA?

My friend got to phase 2, and his GPA dropped after the Fall semester from 4.0 to 3.87, and he did’t get anything. However, it is also possible that because he didn’t have enough extra curricular activities. You should still try to apply, and try to do more volunteer work to enrich your resume.
