That person who got in was told in a “private message”, not an official acceptance email, so it might be possible that he has already worked at JAX before or has some kind of connection. In last year’s thread, way more acceptances were out by this time, so let’s just stay hopeful and wait.

that’s awesome news, I somehow missed that when I was reading through the thread earlier. makes me even more certain we are still in the running

Any news guys?

Nope

Nada. Tomorrow’s the day!

I hope it’s not like last year when people still hadn’t heard anything back in early April.

Fingers crossed. I’d assume if we don’t hear anything by tomorrow, we’re on a wait list.
Though if I haven’t heard back by midweek, I’ll probably email them.

rejected by JAX lab

I’m sorry to hear that @sumoon. If you don’t mind me asking, when did you get your email?

I got this on March 28th, 7:45AM. I was very hopeful that I would get it.

Well, today is the day. I hope

@Sumoon, sorry to hear. Can you tell me if you are in HS or College? I’m a college freshman and so far it seems the rejections were from HS students.

I guess i will be posting shortly - rejection or acceptance. My fingers are crossed.

Good luck, everyone!!

Nothing at 7:45

summary of posters on this year’s thread: 11 waiting, 5 rejections, 1 acceptance through private message
last year: 7 rejections, 5 waiting, 2 acceptances, with at least 1 being due to prior JAX connection. All 5 who were waiting were denied. No acceptances were posted between the first two and the last wait list rejection.
2012: 2 early acceptances due to connection at lab, 2 official acceptances (1 turned down position), 2 rejections, no waiting.
Draw whatever conclusions from this you will and good luck to all

That makes me uneasy about the possibility of acceptance at this point in the process. But since I haven’t heard anything at all, I’ll remain optimistic!

Good luck to you all! I was rejected last week too.

Out of the 11 waiting, 3 are high school students (all juniors) and 8 are college students (mostly freshmen and sophomore). And as someone already pointed out, people who got rejected were mostly, if not all, high school students, including all the applicants from my school.

Does this mean the people who are still waiting basically passed the first round and now it’s up to the PIs to choose their own?

^I would agree, and this seems logical, but the pattern from 2012 would indicate that rejections are typically sent after the acceptances, and that a fairly extensive waiting list is usually established.

It is highly possible that the one who got in so far has some sort of connection due to the “private message”.

I’d think they are doing something differently this year. Most people already got their decisions by late march, but this year most people were waiting until some were rejected on the 28th.
