JACT (Just Another Chance Thread) - pretty catchy, eh? No? Alright.

Seeing as how this Emory board can be dull at times, and even though this does go against my morals, I'll post a chance thread. I applied EDI last month and even though nothing you say will have an affect on my decision to apply, I'll make this post for ****s and giggles. And here it goes...

White male from NY
GPA: 3.6 UW, 3.84 W (+.25 for honors, +.75 for AP) --- took 7/8 possible APs
ACT: 31
School doesn't rank

Senior year courseload: AP Calc AB, AP English Lit, Physics H, Greek III H, Religion IV (required), and a 300-level Latin course at University that is on my HS campus (received 5 A's for first quarter and did not receive grade in U. course).

ECs (I'll make them short because they are):

-Cross Country - 4 years, captain this year
-Indoor Track - 3 years, captain this year
-Outdoor Track - 3 years, captain this year
-Some clubs in school - no leadership positions
-Went to Ecuador this past summer for 2 weeks (is this even an EC?)
-2 summer jobs (Caddy and snack bar at town pool)
-Internship at town court for 1 summer
Lack of substantial ECs is due to commitment to running

Essays: Common App one was my quest for the perfect biscuit, Emory supplement was about the Classics.
Recs: one from latin teacher of two years, other from english teacher of two years.
Counselor Rec: don't even know to be honest

No hooks, nothing special with this applicant. Low GPA with rigorous course load, ACT is in range but no SAT II's and EC's are far from stellar. Putting my chances at straight 50% (last year Emory's ED was 53%). Thank you all for your time.

Tom

65%. Why don’t you think your ECs are stellar

I think you’ve got a pretty decent shot. The act is good, gpa a bit low, and the ec’s are good in number. Schedule looks good too.

Yeah thanks - you sound like a beast runner. What other schools are you looking at?

What are your races and PRs?

Me? Nothing spectacular. 5:20 mile, 2:20 800, 16:50 for 2.5 mile XC course.

7/8 possible AP’s. Our school offers WAY more than 8 APs. You could have taken 2/3 AP’s sophomore year, 4 AP’s junior, 4 AP’s senior? That is a total of 11? 7/8? Maybe I’m missing something. You took 3 junior year and what AP Calc, AP English and University Latin? You have 7 AP’s?
W/E I personally say in but I would ask john to be sure :).
