so... i am planning on going with a james madison major. however, i have a few questions.

1) are the kids at case cliquey? i honestly don't want to just hang out with the kids from my major.

2) do you really HAVE to live at case?

3) know anyone that lived at a seperate dorm for freshman year and attended JMC?

i really just want to have the "college experience" (meeting new people). i'd prefer kids that aren't stuck up. if i wanted that i'd join a sorority. let me know.

From my knowledge when looking at MSU your freshmen year you do have to live in Case, but I do remember a exception but forgot exactly what it was ( if any).

I’m in james madison - 3rd year, International relations/economics major.

1) are the kids at case cliquey? i honestly don’t want to just hang out with the kids from my major.

~sorta. Yes, many of the kids you will likely be friends with (if you live in case) are james madison people. But this is because you likely will have the most in common and will have classes/homework to suffer through together. However, case has 2/3rds james madison students, and the remaining 1/3rd are a medley of students from different majors…so you have plenty of opportunities to make friends from other majors within case hall.

2) do you really HAVE to live at case?
~YES, essentially all freshmen do. There is nothing wrong with case hall…if you like MSU sports at all, it is the closest dorm to both spartan stadium and the breslin center which is beyond awesome. And seriously, the kids aren’t that bad whatsoever. For every kid that is the stereotypical madison “all-star” know-it-all, there is a normal, fun to hang out with madison kid that you are sure to get along with.

3) know anyone that lived at a seperate dorm for freshman year and attended JMC?

~Only those who are double majoring in another residential college (which is pretty much crazy…or those who switch majors into James madison at the last minute).

i really just want to have the “college experience” (meeting new people). i’d prefer kids that aren’t stuck up. if i wanted that i’d join a sorority. let me know.

~The “stuck up” stereotype is just that…a stereotype. Yes, there are quite a few madison kids who are stuck up. But at the same time, you could interpret that as being outspoken and strong-willed (which neither are necessarily bad things). I came into madison with the same fears…while the students on my floor freshman year tended to be more the stereotype than the exception, I found a ton of friends off my floor (as well as my roommate and suitemates) who I got along great with (who are still my friends to this day) that are friendly, outgoing, and not overly obsessed with politics/insufferable know-it-alls. Seriously, I think you’ll be okay. If you find out later that james madison/james madison students aren’t for you, it is way easy to switch your major.
