From NJ. Son is considering both schools. Wants business. Not sure which school is more reputable for post grad employment. Any insight or thoughts welcome.

Both are beautiful. JMU has great, innovative bus. program and reputation shows up in excellent post grad. employment stats especially in Mid-Atlantic and NE. However, Clemson is up and comer and in few years I think it will be a real contender; they are starting to put emphasis on programs other than just engineering. S was accepted to both but chose Clemson. In part for bigger sports/overall college experience, better gender balance (never been an issue but last few visits to JMU seemed like female ratio was over 60%), and felt kids at CU were a little more mature. Partying at both, but seemed larger percentage of CU students sought out other activities.

It also came down to JMU and Clemson for me. Clemson had the bigger sports atmosphere, JMU seemed to have the more highly regarded academics and facilities. Both are great schools, and it really depends on what you want to do.

If he really wants business, I would chose JMU though. The CoB at JMU is a high riser, and Business Week just named JMU as number 3 in the nation for Return on Investment. Keep in mind that students have to apply to the Colleg eof Business after thei Sophmore year. I believe a 2.8 is needed, but it will keep going up as the College keeps gaining in prestige.

I would visit both schools and choose the one that feels most comfortable. If you love your school, its more likely that you will make the most of your time there, which is better than going to a school just for “rankings” which are subjective anyway. As for reputation for post grad employment, its not like one is Harvard and the other one is a community college, they both are good schools that will serve well.
