For say, the ivies, whats technically the latest you can submit your online app for those that have a Jan. 1 deadline? I assume it’s 11:59 pm Jan. 1 EST but I’m not sure, since it’s new year’s day I was thinking maybe they want it by 11:59 pm Dec. 31, BEFORE Jan 1.

I doubt it will make a difference, as no one is going to be in the admissions office at 11:59 PM on the 31st downloading applications. If it comes in sometime on the 1st, its fine.

Why download? They can setup to discard any app with a receive timestamp of 12:00am Jan 1 or later. You are tempting fate.

well i know for northwestern the app will be available online thru jan. 1 so i assume the ivies will too. It seems only fair since the postmark date is jan. 1 not dec. 31

....think about how many ppl will be in front of their computers finishing up applications countin down the new year that way =)

does postal service run on new years day?

No it does not. Postmarks must be on December 31st. The January 1st deadline only works for online applications.

Hey, so that means its OK if my online app is submitted any time BEFORE 11.59 PM on the 1st of January, right???

Holy Crap! Post office doesn't open on January 1st? Off I go to the POST OFFICE THEN! Bloody hell. Do I have to specify that I want my envelopes postmarked or do they do that automatically?!

I didn't postmark mine either!?

better make sure and remind them

you're lucky i made this thread, haha

BTW I just found out that for only 90 cents you can get a receipt of having mailed something that is dated. Thus if your app is lost it can be proved that you mailed it on 12/31 or whatever.

Wow, I'm going to do that. A great insurance for your entire future.

some post offices have a automatic booth where u could mail something on jan 1. they keep their doors open so u can use that. they just wno't have th eworkers there.

Does anyone know FOR SURE that the deadline is 11:59 PM on Jan. 1? "Postmark date" makes it sound that way.

On your reciet (if you have them add the postage to the envelopes), it says the zip code that it mailed to. This can also act as proof of your sending it.

I sent in my ed app 11 minutes after the deadline and got deferred =x

I mailed my things, but I did not post-mark it. Do you guys think that the admissions office cares? Because the post-office isn't opened tomorrow.

Sorry davidrune, you'll have to go to Yale.

But really, I think they will know. Coming from Canada, they may give you extra leway. They will be able to see when items come in postmarked, and compare with unpostmarked if they really want to.

I wish they made hte deadline on a day you could actaully send like 31st or 3rd. Silly post offices kept saying yah we're open Sat. no problem. Then I call today and they're like sorry we didn't realize sat was New years so no we are not open. :P
