***January 2016 SAT (US Only) Thread***

Do you guys know what was the curve for the June 2014 test

Nvm, I found out, 1 wrong on math is 770 :frowning:

yeah harsh math curve :(. I asked my sister and she doesn’t remember the “unuse” question either but its on the google doc so it definitely was a question…I guess it wasn’t underlined?

If the January SAT is the same one as the June 2014 one, then it created an unfair advantage for people who retook it. I’m not sure if the SAT would be given again because of this repeat, but on http://www.nytimes.com/1995/10/29/us/same-sat-version-was-given-twice-college-board-says.html
college board offered a retake for those who took the repeat SAT

@L3tan3 i don’t think you would need to worry about people retaking it and happening to take both the June 2014 and yesterday’s test. That was 2 years ago, and current juniors would have been freshmans when it was given in 2014 and I highly doubt a freshman would take the SAT, no matter how ambitious they are

@mayankko can you post the curves for june 2014, what is -3 in reading, -2 in math and -2 writing with a 10 essay?

@Boltingflame woah ur the first person ive met who took it as a freshman haha. so i guess there are some exceptions but generally its rare that someone would take it as a freshman and a junior (unless applying for some kind of program that requires you to take it in freshman year). and exactly, when i take practice tests again that i took just 6 months ago i never remember the answers

Which writing section was the experimental?

I actually took the June 2014 SAT as a Freshmen and this one. To be honest as @curlypie99 said I would never have known they were the same if you hadn’t said it. I haven’t actually looked at the June 2014 Thread so I am not sure, but I did not recognize anything on this SAT, so I don’t feel I had any unfair advantage, if it was the exact same.

GUYS just to clear up the question about how rank is passed down among baboon females, I think it should have been among, because the question stated “from mother to daughters.” Between is used when you have 2 items OR when naming individual items, in this case mother and daughters.

@rand123 the right answer, or the incorrect part of the sentence, was the underlined daughters. I don’t remember the specifics but it was something about passing rank from mother to daughter and there was the word herself or something so you couldnt use daughters

These are extrapolated from the 2014 June SAT (-#, where # is number of questions wrong)

Reading:
-0, 800
-1, 800
-2, 800
-3, 780
-6, 720
-8, 690
-9, 670

Math:
-0, 800
-1, 770
-2, 740
-3, 710

Writing:
-1, 11 essay - 800
-14, 11 essay - 700
-2, 10 essay - 770
-5, 10 essay - 710
-0, 9 essay - 780
-1, 9 essay - 780
-10, 8 essay - 600
-5, 8 essay - 660

Hey has anyone figured out the curve for the June 2014 test? Im super pissed that we got a recycled exam :frowning:

@garyasho2 Thank you! do you think we have any chance of getting a different curve?

@smileydinosaur Well, I frankly don’t know. People are saying that the curves are predetermined, so if they are, then the curves will have to stay the same.

@garyasho2 damn it! no please :((( maybe theyll make the curve better bc all the kids in connecticut, NYC and NJ didnt take it lol

@smileydinosaur

Well, Allen from Prepscholar (he’s super smart), said that “First, the College Board and the ACT do not curve the test on a test by test basis, but rather on a year-by-year or even decade by decade basis” and he goes on to say that

“Both the SAT and the ACT have questions on every test that are identical to those given to students on previous test dates. They use these questions to compare students to one another, so that the curve actually extends well beyond a single test date. If a single test date has a greater number of smarter, better prepared students, those students will all end up scoring a higher score.”

I think this extremely suggests that curves are predetermined. So yay…?

What did you guys have for the improving paragraph? Like what it talked about and some questions

I just really hope the curve is 9 essay -0 MC is an 800. And how come no one thinks the answer choice that was saying “steel would be used if there was less energy cost” is correct?

@garyasho2 Ive read that before too. But honestly I really do think how other people do does affect the curve. When I took the exam in October, all the kids who took it in June and plus all the EA seniors took it and the curve was extremely harsh.
