***January 2016 SAT (US Only) Thread***

@Riconemelone

the scores come out when the tears start to fall

Will the curve be the same as June test?

you should definitely petition it. i struggled with it and found it too hard to decide a “better” answer choice

@testsat1212 I heard ambivalent answers not sure

I can’t believe that the SAT journey is over for me but I’m happy that it is since now I can focus on other parts to brighten up my college admissions resume (like AP exams). I hope I got a good increase this time around but if not then oh well…I’m not too keen on trying out new SAT or ACT,what do ya’ll think?

I’m taking the new SAT for fun

i dont understand, will the curve be the same?

Probably, yeah.

lets all hope not

What would be the statistical basis for using a different curve? Isn’t the curve supposed to be based on the intrinsic difficulty of the test? If the test is the same test, its intrinsic difficulty cannot change.(Maybe the essay questions could be harder or easier, since I assume they are different from the original essay questions.) But if a different curve is used for the second administration of the test, apart from the essay, wouldn’t that entail that the curve used the first time was… incorrect? Or am I missing something?

if the curve this time is different from the one they used last time in june, it would prove that everyone has been lying to us, including collegeboard, and that the curve is based on how people do and not the actual difficulty of the exam.

The equating process is not completely exact. ETS and CB are well aware of this because ETS has carried out studies at regular intervals to measure the “score drift” caused by accumulated small equating errors. It could be that the second administration is equated separately, and then perhaps the two sets of results are averaged. This might lead to a small adjustment in the curve, justifiable as as “correction” of the inevitable small inaccuracy of the first equating.
This could be another good query tweet for that CB rep!

Only 1 more week! What do you guys think you will get for your scores?

@soccerbball I don’t want to predict my score anymore, because I always get 100 points below that lol. At this point, I’ll take whatever I get.

A solid 600

Lol I’ll just say to myself that I decreased in all my sections. I keep beating myself up over particular questions and who knows what I made! I’d rather be doubtful and then acknowledge the score than to be super optimistic and shocked if it’s the opposite of what I expected. “Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed” is my motto for this test take. (o3o)

I always lower my score expectations so that a higher score is more rewarding and a lower one less depressing.

Who saw all four essay topics available for the test? What were everyone’s favourites?

Collegeboard just released the January 2016 essay prompts:

Prompt 1: How much importance should we place on the advice of others when making an important decision?
Prompt 2: Do frequent repetition and widespread acceptance make a foolish thing seem wise?
Prompt 3: Should people think about changing themselves instead of trying to change the world?
Prompt 4: Are there situations in which compromise is not the best course of action?

I had Prompt 1 as my topic for essay and to me it wasn’t that difficult but I sort of rushed a little at the end. But I’m glad I got that prompt instead since this would be the difficultly level of how I view each prompt starting with the easiest first: Prompt 1> Prompt 3> Prompt 4> Prompt 2

Just a hunch, but there are only 4 prompts for the essay, I was wondering if there are only 4 prompts because of the U.S. mainland having 4 different time zones…so each timezone gets its own prompt?

@HappinessXOX I had essay prompt 2 (the hardest one…of course  ), so do you think the curve for us will be a little more lenient? Does CB curve based on the essay prompt you had?
